Death Valley, Calif., which is known for being the world’s hottest location, maxed out at a relatively chilly 89 degrees on Sunday. This temperature – more than 30 degrees below average – was its coolest high temperature on record for the date by a whopping 15 degrees. The previous record of 104 was set in 1945.

This was only the eigth time that a high in the 80s has occurred in Death Valley in July or August, and there hasn’t been a high less than 90 since 1984. Weather records in Death Valley go back to 1911.

Btw, I post this as a joke, not trying to start a Global Cooling debate.

Here comes Spidey to explain why this one temperature doesn't matter but a single month‘s avg temp is the lone indicator of an impending 2,000 ft rise in sea level.

Good, the regulations we've been slapping on the polluters are working...

If conservatives actually conserved we could've broke this record years ago. But no, it's conservative in name only.

He's who I had in mind when I read it...

No matter what, were likely in for a very cold winter. Time to purchase natural gas stocks.

I am trying to conserve as much as Michael Moore and Al Gore but I can't afford my own jet and multiple mansions. Perhaps I too should begin to sell snake oil.

I think you don't believe this is actually the result of regulations.

Regulations have virtually nothing to do with it. Big energy users have been investing in energy savings initiatives for years...if anything tax incentives have been a bigger factor, but at the end of the day, reducing overhead increases profit.

Next up, the global cooling debate. Why has congress not passed legislation to prevent the next ice age?

I believe the proper term is AGW, it stands for Al Gore's Warming.

Then I declare that name null and void. A committee should be formed to address the afore mentioned topic.

Absolutely! If Obama had not made all those fund raisers to California, there may have been snow in Death Valley.

Awesome, now can we put this debate to rest? We don't want to regulate TOO much and cause another ice age now do we?

Or do we? What's the optimal temperature GW proponents seek again? I can't seem to find it.

Actually the abnormal cool weather is due to an unusual lack of sunspots leading to a lull in Solar Activity
