The Union Street Guest House, near Catskills estates built by the Vanderbilts and Rockefellers, charges couples who book weddings at the venue $500 for every bad review posted online by their guests.

If you have booked the inn for a wedding or other type of event .?.?. and given us a deposit of any kind .?.?. there will be a $500 fine that will be deducted from your deposit for every negative review .?.?. placed on any internet site by anyone in your party.”
If you take down the nasty review, you’ll get your money back

Maybe they should just focus on good service.

at all the bad reviews now posted on yelp about that place.
As for thoughts? Why would anyone actually stay at a place with a policy like that?

In response to a review complaining of rude treatment over a bucket of ice, the proprietors shot back: “I know you guys wanted to hang out and get drunk for 2 days and that is fine. I was really really sorry that you showed up in the summer when it was 105 degrees .?.?. I was so so so sorry that our ice maker and fridge were not working and not accessible.”
Seems like a high class place

I believe it.
There was an online camping store - kleargear.com - that was sending fines into collections and threatening litigation over bad reviews. Linked below, the fine was $3,500 and the clause was added to the terms of service after they made their purchase.

KlearGear.com isn't the only company with a so-called non-disparagement clause in its customer agreement terms. CNN found a similar clause on a vacation rental company, shoredreams.net, that threatens a charge of up to $10,000 for online reviews containing "unreasonable negative sentiment." After a CNN report about the clause aired, the company removed it from its terms and conditions, citing customer feedback.

Wow! They sound like grade school girls running a hotel.

"My girlfriend and I stayed here over the weekend. They limited us to one poop per day or we were to be charged an "Excess Waste Fee" of $200. Had to put a cork in my arse just to save ourselves a couple Benjamins.
Never, ever, again."

A upscale hotel in upstate New York’s Hudson River Valley is causing a social media uproar with its alleged guest policy that fines reviewers $500 for bad reviews.
First line of the Fox News article and they have improper grammar. SMH

I couldn't find any connection into the allegations on the official website.

The place looks cool as hell, but it's probably not for the 'W hotel crowd.
This might be worth personally investigating this fall, early fall that is frick that place in Winter.

"A few weeks ago I inherited $300,000,000 from an uncle I did not know I had. Apparently he wanted me to learn the value of money before I got the money. The catch was I had to spend $30,000,000 in one month and have nothing to show for it. No assets of any kind at the end of the month. If I was successful I would get the rest of the money.
Long story short I stayed my first night of the month in the union Street Guest House and invited a couple of very critical friends over to celibate my new fortune. I had not read the fine print of my stay and I guess my guest were a bit critical about this place in some reviews. We had a great time, but I think people were too filled up on lobster and champagne to write good reviews. Anyways, I now have won the rest of my inheritance from the extra charges. The problem I have now is how I will make it through the rest of the month with all $30 mil spent and nothing to show for it or live off the rest of the time until I get my $300 mil. 5 out of 5 would stay again, but I guess I'm rich enough to afford it."
