Does Comcast/XFinity require cable boxes?

Looking to make a switch and I just want Internet and basic cable, but don't really care for boxes/HD/DVR. I watch most of my stuff on Roku but like to have the basic for my daughter and to watch the Braves games on.

Not sure but at the least cable providers are required to offer cablecards which you rent for a few dollars a month and insert into your own tuner/set top box. Generally you can get all available channels (premium, sports, etc.) just none of the extras available such as on demand and dvr capabilities.

You'd need a minimum of their dinky little digital converter boxes- not much bigger than a pack of smokes.

I have Comcastcast XFinity internet and voice (phone).
I have to pay $9 a month for a modem separate from any other monthly charges.
They will try their best to charge you $5 a month for a maintenance charge.
Comcast in Atlanta just raised their rates. The individual items on my bill were raised a total of $3 a month yet they raised my bundle package $20 a month.
The above information is submitted without animosity......

Yes sir. Once they did away with analog cable, the digital set top boxes were/are required.
I'd look for another service though b/c Comcrap is overrated. And just in case you were wondering why they changed their name from Comcast to XFinity, it was b/c of the bad press Comcrap kept getting. So in essence, it was a marketing tool.

No. They offer Cablecards like someone mentioned above (which they don't charge for. I actually get a $2.50 credit each month for using all of my own equipment). In order to get those to work though, you need to have a device that will support those Cablecards specifically. I use the HDHomeRun Prime with a HTPC that I have hooked up to my TV, but you can use different types of extenders like an XBox 360 if you don't care about recording anything.

Yeah I just want a box in the bedroom and basic cable in the playroom for my daughter. And basic in the living room. We never really watch that one unless a game is on. I may just stick with charter then. I got some message the other day saying I needed a box for each tv now.

I have Comcast and use their cable cards in my TiVo. So no, you don't have to use their box.
