The nation’s largest environmental group is earning money from an oil well on land it controls in Texas, despite pledging a decade ago not to permit new oil and gas drilling on land supposedly set aside for conservation. That revelation is contained in a forthcoming book about climate change by the writer and activist Naomi Klein, and the essential facts of the case were confirmed last week by the Nature Conservancy, the environmental group in question.

There have been questions about The Nature Conservancy's practices for several years. If you read the article, The NC claims it had to honor the drilling lease that was in place when they acquired the land. Naomi Klein says they could have fought it in court. To me, it's much ado about nothing. The Nature Conservancy does good work but they aren't perfect.

The Nature Conservancy makes a shite ton of money selling wetland remediation land also. They have a bunch of land in Louisiana to do so, and are constantly looking for more.
Once I found out about their wetland plays in SELA, I instantly thought they were a for-profit business intent on making money to buy more land to make more money on, etc etc etc. The flip side of that is that they do have a few guys managing the land

I was always under the impression that the Sierra Club had the deepest pockets of any American based environmental group. Guess not. Maybe they are just louder.
