Does anyone do this, and if so, how easy is it? My wife and I are exploring our options and aren't really seeing the need to keep cable television, but we are wavering. Anything I want to watch, I can pull up on the internet (sports). Her shows she can get on Netflix/Hulu Plus or the Roku device. We also have 2 kids (almost 5 year old and a 7 month old). My 5 year old son has a Wii with Netflix in it so he can just watch that. Plus his TV has a DVD player built in to it. Is there anyone else who has gone away from the cable television? If so what are your experiences/advice?

If you can access the live sporting events you want to watch through the internet then there is absolutely no reason to keep cable IMO

I had it, and it was great. $30/month for internet, $10 for netflix, $8 for Hulu, and I caught what channels i could via rabbit ears. However, that doesn't work for football season and I can't get that internet package anymore at my new address. I'm so screwed.

Don't do it if you are a big sports fan, if you aren't it is super easy to cut the cord. You can watch all sports online but the quality is shite, you can't really pause and rewind, etc.

This is MY personal dilemma here. I am a huge sports fan and would love to keep it so I can rewind/pause, etc. However, our cable bill is over $100 and I think in the long run I would be able to appreciate saving at least $1200 a year over being able to rewind/pause some sporting events every once in a while.

No cable here. I watch everything via Primewire or other websites. I have access to Sunday Ticket for the saints and will go to a bar to watch LSU.

There are streaming websites out there. If you have a laptop with an HDMI port, you can connect your laptop and your TV via the HDMI cable. Then extend your computer screen to show on your TV and viola!

First row sports and use an Apple TV or Chromecast.

This. Cox is my only choice where I live currently and it would be $120/month (and that's just for 3 months). After a year, it would be $145. I would never EVER use them if it weren't for the fact that at my address, they're the only game in town.

Just get the most basic channel that comes with ESPN, it shouldn't be more than $50 or so a month and is WAY worth it.

I do have a chromecast. My laptop is shite and my tablet doesn't have a chromecast app (Surface tablet), so I have to stream through my phone

Oh, but it is way more than $50. Once they add all the charges, it's pushing $100.

For the smallest package with ESPN and internet, yep

That's just for 2 tvs, no DVR, and only one box, and 5mbps internet

I did it for spring and summer. It's easy with Uverse to drop the packages whenever you want, but I'm about to jump back in for the fall. I want SEC Network, NFL Network, and all the ESPNs to watch games.

That's what I wanted to do, but Uverse isn't available at my new address

i cut the cable in 2009, maybe 2008. we watch a lot less tv since we cut the cord, which is a good thing IMHO. every thing we watch is deliberate, no watching the rock b.c I ran into it when surfing.

The only time its a problem is for college football and MNF.

Here are the solutions to the problem,
a) watch football at a bar. I will run about a $40 tab each time I do this. But even if you multiple that times 20 games a year, you are still at a lot less than cable plus it includes food/beer.
b) borrow someone's espn360 acct. This works, but is a little scummy
c) go to a friends house to watch those games. If you have lots of LSU (or Iowa fans) like I do, this is pretty easy to do. Someone else is watching the game and usually they love company.
d) go with an illegal stream.

I normally go with a combo of a, b, and c. I do d on very rare occasions.

I dropped digital cable (was paying $120 per month) and was planning on getting rid of it all together and just keeping internet. I kept basic cable plus internet and pay $55 per month. The cable isn't HD, but I really only use it in a the bedroom with an older TV that doesn't have a digital tuner. In our living room, we mostly use just antenna (which is great quality, better than cable HD).

I have a Tivo with an antenna hooked and basic cable hooked into it.

I will drop TV completely when I get a new TV for the bedroom and will want HD back back there. Should cost about $35.
