leaders criticize hiring white teacher for school's cultural studies

Unbelievable.
At an early morning news conference Monday, a small group of concerned citizens led by Rev. Karen Crozier met in front of the school on Church Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Crozier and others were dismayed to learn the person hired to teach the school's three cultural studies classes is white. District officials initially considered hiring a teacher of color, she said, but ultimately hired Peter Beck, a former teacher at Hoover High School
"We're just saying what the community wants. We didn't fight for a white male or female teacher to educate our babies," Crozier said. "We still are at these racial fault lines, and we want someone who will be able to think critically about those racial fault lines and how do we help heal, to restore the problems that have existed."
District spokeswoman Micheline Golden did not confirm any details about who the district interviewed for the position.
But she said Beck was the best pick for the job and one of only four teachers in Fresno Unified with experience teaching the three cultural studies classes he'll be responsible for at Gaston.

so "the community" is racist.
Gold Jerry, GOLD!

How anyone can defend this logic string baffles me but someone with strong shoulders and large buckets will try.

More gold Jerry.
Rev. Paul McCoy of New Light for New Life Church of God said he met Beck this month at a meeting with one of Gaston's principals and found him "highly intelligent." He's qualified for the job, McCoy added, but said, "we told him it's not about him."

Yeah. When I think of critical thinking skills I envision Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and Maxine Waters. That's the ticket.

From this description, it sounds like the course title should be "Introduction to Victimization 101".

Why does this surprise anyone?
I shared my story here many times how I almost lost my prior job in Higher Education when I proved that a white person (me) put up better results working with minority communities than the person who held my job before me (minority).
The numbers and results were all fine and dandy until the minority leaders realized a blue-eyed white boy was the one who turned up the positive results. Then, low and behold, the guy who gave them the results they wanted for years was called a racist and put through "prove you aren't a racist" hell for almost a year.
This is how a lot of these so-called black "leaders" think, and it is a damn shame.
Also makes me grateful I no longer have to work with idiots like that. Believe me, they dominate higher ed, along with their white-guilt cohorts.

Do you mind sharing more of the story?

quote:So critical thinking on racial fault lines is the exclusive province of blacks. Whites are incapable of critical thinking on this issue. Isn't that prejudice by Rev. Crozier based on race?
"We still are at these racial fault lines, and we want someone who will be able to think critically about those racial fault lines and how do we help heal, to restore the problems that have existed."
quote:What did you expect when you demanded an end to segregation? That classrooms would be filled with students of all races, but the teachers would all be blacks?
We didn't fight for a white male or female teacher to educate our babies.

I'll give a brief summary. It's been almost 10 years ago now, but it still pisses me off, and I don't want to ruin my day.
* Hired as the (we will call it the minority representative) at local university. Served similar role prior at another university with similar results.
* Went into poor schools/communities in the state to increase awareness of school. Yes, I was threatened with my life a few times at a few of the schools. LOL
* Within two years, hit the target numbers black leaders on campus wanted for several years prior to me showing up.
* Black leaders on campus wanted to force a position in our office to do what I was doing. Our office did NOT have the budget to hire said position. The premise was "only a black person can continue to give us these results".
* When data was presented that showed whitey did better (in some cases more than DOUBLED the goal) black leaders immediately cried racism.
* The person who achieved the goal was the target. Misery ensued.
* Oddly enough, one of the black leaders working behind the scenes was the very person I replaced when putting up the numbers. LOL
* End result? I was miserable, went to several HR meetings, kept my job, was eventually promoted a year later (my strategies were used to help establish a plan for all demographics that led to some of the best results as a whole) and the position was never forced upon our office. We removed me from the spot, put a minority in my place without making a new hire, and the minority numbers went back down.
* No more complaints later since a minority was doing it again. LOLOLOL
There you have it!

Perhaps the first step is to remove the mote from thine own eye first.
Person wants to heal the racial fault lines, but only if the teacher is black.

This is why the inner city can't have nice things.

This should shed some light on why I get so pissy when the mods allow "Progressive" posters here to play the race card at any turn.
