So I own Goldschmidt in a keeper league, and I am in second place right now. I already have Tulo and Encarnacion on the bench on the DL. Since Goldschmidt will be out for the season I am looking to trade him to a team that is out of playoff contention. For our keepers you average the rounds of where he was picked the previous year with the draft projection for the upcoming year. I kept Goldschmidt last year too and he was a 7th round pick so next year he would be a 4th round pick if his ASP is 1st round.

Also, if I drop him and someone picks him up they can keep him as a last round pick.

My question is how much should I expect to get back in a trade where I'm offering Goldschmidt. Could I expect to get someone that is in that top tier in return for Goldschmidt?

TIA

Forget any thought you had about dropping him. That should have never crossed your mind.

E5 should be coming off the DL in a week so you could just swap them out. If you're going to move him, get a top 15 player in return or multiple top 30 players. If you're feeling generous, a top 30 and top 50 player.

He's worth a ton injured or not... especially at a 4th round keeper value.

I wouldn't trade him. But you'd better get first round talent if you do. Keeping him for a 4th next year is beyond amazing value.

Yea dropping him was never an option, just clarifying the rule for my question.

top 15 player in return

this is what I was wanting to know! thanks

If I can't get that in return I'll just keep him for next year.

You need to get a top 25 player at worst. Goldschmidt was owned by a contender in my keeper and I was going to offer Braun (plus, I would have done more if necessary), but the trade deadline had passed.

Even with a top 15 player in return, I'd trade to get some spare parts with it as well. Improve the bench, add a closer or whatnot.

Don't settle for a package. Go get what you want if you're moving him.

Go look at the rosters of non-contenders and see if you can get like Adam Jones or something. If you think you can do it without Goldy, then sit on him, but you probably need to make the move.

bad thing is only 3 teams are out of contention and the one that owns Scherzer already said he isn't trading him.

Looks like I might have to keep him anyway

Thanks for the input guys

Another team just fell out of contention and made me an offer for Goldschmidt. Albert Pujols and Jered Weaver for Goldschmidt. I think I really need another pitcher for the playoffs.

This is my staff right now:
Greinke, Zack
Porcello, Rick
Shields, James
Ventura, Yordano
Wheeler, Zack

Matt Garza is my only reserve right now and he is hurt also as well.

I picked up Chris Carter after Goldschimdt got hurt and Carter has been on FIRE! Should I just keep Goldschmidt and ride it out with my current staff and Carter at first.

The Pujols Weaver package does not interest me. If you need pitching help, then you should be able to get about any arm you want for Goldy.

This.

And if it's not Kershaw, you should still be able to get a spare part or two with it.

Sale or Felix would still be a fair one for one because are both pretty young even though Felix has a lot of miles and a lot of people think Sale is an injury waiting to happen.

The Scherzer owner turned me down already and the guys that own Sale, Kershaw and Felix are either in the playoffs or on the Bubble.

The Scherzer owner is a tard.

I'd rather stream match ups than settle for a package. Explore other options and don't feel backed into a corner.
