shite happens and people don't follow protocol.

I have been wondering this as well...I assume they were taking the same precautions that will be taken in atlanta...

shite happens in Africa. No matter the protocol, their safety over there is nothing compared to here.

This should of been question number one that should of been answered by now. There has been no follow up to this situation.

They're not wearing hazmat suits out there, they're just heavily gowned up. Maybe supples were low, they had to reuse something, and nobody noticed it had a tear in it.

Well Atlanta has clean water so there is that....standard precautions theoretically should be enough and they are not followed in Africa.

But he has to work under local conditions, which are usually less than ideal.

I don't understand how some of you can believe that we are just flying a dude with a deadly disease to our soil without doing any background on the situation.

Does anyone know why they did not just treat them on the jet in a hangar there as opposed to bringing them back to the US? There is no cure, only support right? IV fluids, TPN, comfort meds and blood products could have made the trip easily...

This entire thread is dumb. Can y'all really not understand how something like this could happen?
How does a surgeon contract a disease during surgery? By making a mistake.
This guy likely made a mistake, combined with the shitty environments over there.
It really is a simple concept.
