I see far too many people doing this on the roads. I always thought it was against the law...

With both on I think it is. I see it all the time and the person is always a horrific driver.

Why does that bother you?

The only way it's acceptable is if they have the one in for phone calls, like on an iPhone. But there'd be no way to enforce that rule, so it should be illegal.

This applies to mostly everyone on a cellphone or at least messing with one.

Yeah I think if you just have one earbud in it is ok.

Before I got a car with Bluetooth through the speakers if I talked on my phone while driving it was with one earbud in my ear so I could talk hands free.

Because it's a distraction and they can't hear if any sirens etc are near.

Thanks for contributing to the thread though.

sounds like it's only a distraction to you, so stop looking and pay attention to the road. I don't see anyone starting a thread saying some guy was staring at me while I had my headphones on..!!

I'm always curious with situations like this. Is there any empirical evidence that confirms that headphones while driving causes a disproportionate amount of accidents?

I'm curious how someone could prove that the driver was listening to something through their headphones if they got pulled over?

In all fairness, it shouldn't matter, nor should you be required to have a working horn. None of that makes any difference to a deaf person and they can drive legally.

Another driving "problem" that already has a technological solution, bluetooth streaming. Unfortunately it may be another 10 years before it's enough cars are upgraded/retired for it to become ubiquitous.

I always have earbuds handy now, in case the baby decides he wants to scream on the way to New Orleans for his Dr. appointments. So far, I haven't needed them, but I know to be prepared, after many an overturned 18-wheeler 2-3 years ago made the trip to daycare with my daughter last 2 hours.
