No kidding. So what he is "splitting" needs to come in to the switch to then be split out. I still refer to it as the WAN port, so what.

Yeah....Input could be 1-5.....It doesn't matter..This is an unmanaged switch, not a router...

Ah, you are correct. Helpful to look at the model.

I've got the input cable going into port 1 and the left side light is on and blinking. I've got the output cable in port 5 going to my computer but no lights are on.

Eta: switched to port 4 and it works now. Thanks for all the help!

Probably why it was in the closet...

ALSO:

We frown on people just throwing a switch into our work network..

I can not tell you how many times we have had issues because some jackleg plugs in a router in an office, putting another DHCP server on the network

Ok, I guess I know just enough to be dangerous

If I am screwing things up, what will happen? What should I look for?

I knew that probably wasn't a good idea, even though I found a couple in the closet.

But I may be screwing things up with the switch.

Installing a new network printer. I have one network outlet to work with, and one line needs to go to my phone/computer. Will this work with a switch?

The network to go down...

Your little switch isn't going to do anything, and will likely go unnoticed...
