Manchester City may loan players to NYCFC
Posted by thenry712 on 8/1/14 at 10:55 am00
Great for development of MLS and Manchester City
I've always wondered if MLS could be a viable league for super clubs to loan out their U21 and academy players. I realize the seasons aren't aligned, but I feel like MLS is a desirable option to develop talent.
Championship-level talent like Giles Barnes, Bradley Wright-Phillips and Dom Dwyer have succeeded in MLS.
As an 19 year old borderline Premier League talent, wouldn't you rather hone your skills for a year in San Jose than say Barnsley or Bolton?

Depends on the wages. And English players hate leaving England.

That's why I cited the case of Giles Barnes who has found a niche for Houston, despite being a very promising player in his youth for West Brom and Derby County.
Look at what Chelsea is doing with all of their buy-and-stash players. I'm sure some continental players would prefer America over the slog of the Championship.
Don't most loan deals to lower leagues involve the parent club paying a percentage of the player's salary?

America everytime. Can creep without the English tabloids around (but can't legally drink). Plus our women are hotter

Greater tax benefits from playing in the U.S. versus England.

I thought this was pretty much the plan from the start. Esp using guys from their you system.
a 19yr old brit will stay home. Most likely better competition and no drinking age

my championship/loan deal buzzer just went off
yea, usually if you are loaning a kid to a lower league side, the parent club pays a good portion if not all his wages. when, say, bolton loans a player to leeds or vice versa, chances are it's either 50/50 or the loanee club foots the bill

depends on who pays the wages and getting paid in pounds is much better than dollars anyway you look at it.

The top four clubs in the Championship are very, very good.
I've watched Championship games live featuring midtable teams. There is horrendous football being played at that level.
Also MLS is guaranteed to offer at least one or more players on each team that can provide good mentoring in professionalism for young players.

Its more the style and reason behind it rather than the quality. Its still better than the MLS for now.

San Jose has gotten a couple guys like this from Tottenham. Simon Dawkins a couple years back was probably the best.

i think it will be hard for it to really catch on, especially with promising prospects. hard to keep a close eye on them if they're an ocean away.

I send all my loan players on FIFA to the Swiss league for that priceless first-division experience.
