I figured this was a good spinoff, so I'll start:
A Cajun Meat Market type place with excellent boudin, plate lunches, and jambalaya that reopens late to serve jambalaya and boudin to the drunk crowd.

Agreed. Anything like that plus include a bakery in it with wholesale chicken, pork and beef

Tacos. GOOD tacos.

But that will never happen. BR never does anything right, that's why the city does, and always will, generally suck.

By never doing anything right I mean just take a look at the area just south of campus. So much potential, instead it's full of shite-stained apartments and fast food. The same could be said for the north side too.

College students need fast food, though. It's not like most college students can afford to eat out every night at some nuveau, chic, farm to table, organic pho and french seafood restaurant. It's cheap, fast, with pretty high quality and volume food that they want that they can walk to and eat when hammered. GOOD tacos would be great. The ones at Fuzzy's are just OK and they're not within walking distance.

Fast food doesn't have to be the only cheap option. And I never said anything about chic restaurants. But I do love pho. Vietnamese would be great ~ $3 bahn mi and $6 pho (at least that's how Houston does it and it's fantastic food too). Is that cheap enough for you?

As for Fuzzy's I always thought it was garbage.

There is pho available right off of the south gates at Drunkin' Fish, but I don't know how affordable it is. I've never been a pho fan (had it once in New Orleans and didn't care for it).

Are they open at 9? And pho should be cheap.

I ate Drunken Fish's Veitnamese one time (got the vermicelli). Coming from Houston, where the Viet is plentiful and delicious (3rd largest ethnic group in the city), I was very disappointed. It was very overpriced and not good at all. Their sushi isn't bad.

Pho is either a love/hate thing for people. The flavor of the broth is so unique. In my experience people either hate it first bite or love it. Nothing in between.

EDIT: What when in to Serrano's space? It closed, right? That location could and should kill it. Too bad Serrano's never did anything right with their food other than the strawberry rita

Ya Houston and Baton Rouge are fair comparisons given they are about the same size.

Supposed to be a Barcadia with Curbside burgers in it. Did they move forward with that?

A good taco place would be nice, but most of the more authentic non-chain places probably couldn't afford the rent close by, unless they were closer to the hood, and then you're not within walking distance.
