This is not a new rule...it started before last year's cycle. Players can sign their financial aid paperwork that basically guarantees them a spot and a scholarship. The catch is that they can sign one of these with more than one school. Schools are required to uphold this agreement but the player can back out if he wants.

It's kind of an insurance policy for the kids. They sign a financial aid agreement with the school, so the school has to honor their scholly and can't try to greyshirt them. It's non-binding for the player, but binding for the school. No player has broken the deal yet that I know of, so it essentially means they've signed.

Damn olé miss always trying to get kids across the border.

I'm not so sure that wasn't just rumor mill shite, but I guess I should say no player has publicly broken the agreement.

That's right...no player who was committed to us at the time that they signed the agreement has broken it. I really hope players don't start abusing this deal

Would like to see a cut off date in place like November 1st if they want to enroll early. Would slow a lot of this waiting until AA game commitments

Both highly talented players. Shipley has strong hands while Womack is a monster with attitude. Great gets Ensinger and Grimes!

NCAA LINK

Hootie got multiple financial aid agreements because, last year, schools had an incentive to offer them, because they could then have unlimited communication with the recruit (no worries about dead periods and such). One kid signed agreements with four other schools, which made his recruitment a free-for-all. That won't happen now.

Under the new interpretation of the rule, a school may take advantage of that unlimited communication, but the school will be guilty of a recruiting violation if the recruit later signs with another program. So, there's now no reason for us to offer financial aid paperwork to anyone, unless we are VERY sure that they will sign with us.
