I am on the phone right now with the fruad department. I had 5 transactions totaling $168.80 from Walgreens in Greenville and a Winn Dixie in Baton Rouge. Just putting that out there to let y'all know to watch your accounts.

I've been having a huge problem with this in the last 8 months. My Amex was compromised yesterday. I don't what what direction to take to cure this.

These things aren't systemic. Your info got swiped by someone. The bank had nothing to do with it.

I don't think it's the bank at all. It's happened on several different cards. I'm thinking a phishing program on my work laptop although I wiped it completely several months ago. It's beyond annoying.

Never use a debit card online. Only had to learn that lesson once.

This happened to me a few years ago. Shopped at Walmart (never again) and used my debit card. Two days later someone had purchased two 400.00 walmart gift cards with my card number. Apparently an employee in their back office pulled my card info, went to another walmart, and had someone manually key in my card number to make the purchases.

They got me a month or 2 ago. Two Asian ladies bought $700 in gift cards from Dollar General in NOLA. Cap 1 sent me a new card in the mail and I thought about just cutting it up. If I didn't use it for the ATM then I would have. I will never use that damn thing to make another purchase again. This was the 3rd or 4th time my account had been compromised in the last 5 years

Happened with my amex a few times, they catch it before me, refund the money instantly and overnight me a new card. I never, ever use a debit card anywhere. I'm not interested in fighting/waiting to get my own money back.

I'd definitely be more upset they made me jealous more so than using my card

I think "I bought" about 500$ worth of crap about 3 years ago using my debit card in Dominican Republic while I was living in DC. Happened right after I used my card at a local pizza joint.

Or anywhere else to buy anything ever.

The only safe and limited use for a debit card is to get cash from an ATM located INSIDE the physical premises of a bank. Not the drive up ATM outside your local branch, not your bank's ATM or another national bank's ATM in a public place and certainly not from a private nonbranded ATM.

Inside a bank, with all the security protocols, surveillance and limited physical access to the machine itself, is the only way to be confident the machine isn't tampered with or modified with a third party skimmer, camera/surveillance mechanism or other spyware device.

In addition to my own personal experience with getting skimmed at a non branded ATM, I have family in the banking business and IT security that confirm this is the best way to use debit cards (if ever).

Krebs on Security has an extensive series on debit cards and the ample ways they can be compromised.
