Do any of these come pre-loaded with updated maps and points? Or am I looking at an additional couple hundred for software?? Dont want to spend over 800 dollars.

Never messed with Raymarine, but the Lowrance and Garmin units are both pretty user friendly. Garmin will be cheaper, and IMO just as nice. I was leaning hard on a new HDS but a buddy is sponsored by Garmin now, so I might take advantage of a 40%-50% discount.

ETA: Under 800 will get you a decent unit. If you have to buy a navionics card I think they are still around 100.

ETAA: Actually for under 800 I would go with a Lowrance HDS 5, best bang for your buck. I just quickly looked at the websites, but I am not a fan of the smaller Garmin untis. And the HDS has room to add on later if you wanted, and under your budget even if you have to buy a card.

Garmin maps are garbage. My dad recently bought a new Lowrance unit and it blows the Garmin away.

He's got the HDS9 and it's pretty advanced, but I'm pretty sure he bought a standard mapping card for the area that's extremely detailed.

I would also go with the Lowrance HDS 5, and make sure it's a Gen 2 as well.

New they are $549, but they can be found used for around $350 on bassboatcentral.

I don't know what area's you fish or how many different areas, but I would recommend the standard mapping card for your area, or the Navionics Platinum Plus 651. I have a Standard Mapping card, and it's very nice.

Moved to Ocean Springs, MS. Will fish from the Chandeleur Islands to Dauphin Island and up to 30 miles off.

ahhhh. I would see if this may fit your needs. I 'm not sure of the "topography" availabilty from it, but the satellite overlay is very helpful, unless your 30 miles off.

For that price point you can't go wrong with the new Raymarine Dragonfly. Which come with the navionics chip for free.
