I am taking a 4 day weekend in November and I want to go somewhere new, I'm pretty much wide open to anywhere in the U.S. (Not interested in Florida, NYC, or Texas - been enough)

Some of the first places I have looked into are
San Diego
Denver
San Francisco

Anybody got recommendations on where to go and what I MUST do while I'm there?

DC... now.

The place is just awe-inspiring and a testament to how great our country is, despite all its troubles. For fans of architecture, buildings everywhere in sight are stunning. You'll look at a place and think, "That must be the crown jewel of the Smithsonian," only to realize it's just an office building for a random government agency. The views from inside of the Capitol's rotunda or the Library of Congress' reading room are simply breathtaking. Watching the Changing of the Guard at Arlington will give you goosebumps. There is SO much to see and do there, it's just unreal. Seriously - if you haven't been there, put it on your bucket list.

I can do Biloxi on any given weekend. I'm looking for something a little different. Plus I would rather go to Biloxi earlier in the year to enjoy the golf more.

Do what I/we do. We leave it up to random chance and have done it two ways. We've put names of cities in a hat and drawn from it and we've also put the names on a dart board and let the darts choose where we go. We've had a blast on every trip we've done this way.

Is Napa and Sedona close enough to San Fran to make a trip out there for a day if I vacation in San Fran?

Napa yes. I think you are thinking of Sonoma- which is close enough. Sedona is in Arizona.

Go to Portland, Maine. Drink beer and eat lobster.

I've been thinking that a long weekend in Arizona during that time of year would be nice. Perhaps Nurse has input.

Denver
20 years ago (early September), I rented a Mustang convertible and drove through The Rocky Mountain National Park one day (spent the night in Estes Park) and drove back the next. I'll take those memories to my grave. It was nothing short of a religious experience. You come away with an entirely new perspective. National Parks are there for a reason, but the average Joe doesn't get it until he actually sees them. Hats off to park visionaries Teddy Roosevelt and especially John Muir.

We spend a night in Sedona in the way back from the Grand Canyon in nov '12. I'd love to spend a week in that town.

Out of those, I'd pick San Diego if I only had 4 days... Especially because that includes travel.

There are so many incredible places within a 4 hour (or less) drive from San Francisco. You've got Napa County, Sonoma County (which I prefer to Napa), Muir Woods, Yosemite NP, Sequoia NP, Kings Canyon NP, Tahoe, Carmel/Big Sur (pretty much all of CA Highway 1 is gorgeous) and a lot more. Each one of those areas is worth a visit on its own. And the city itself is amazing... I'd save that area of the country for a longer trip.

Just my opinion...
