Need advice on wireless 3G cards, etc

For work, I'm often in remote locations with no wifi, but need to be able to connect to the internet as well. Trying to figure out what the cheapest/most efficient way to work through 3G on my computer.
My first thoughts were either get an AT&T plan on my iPad, get a wireless card, or set up my phone to be a wireless hotspot.
I would only need to for about an hour or so at a time, if that. Just looking for advice/opinions/reviews on it. I'm pretty dumb with this stuff so bear with me.
