We play by the rules mostly like out of bounds/lost ball/hazards and the like. We don't use the 14 club rule and hit two off the first tee. And we bump the ball even in the rough, but if your stymied your stymied. My question is my playing partner changed putters at the turn, would you object? I ragged him a little, and he came back and said, well so and so changed the setting on his driver while playing last time we played, and said its no different. Then later he hit from the wrong tee, farther back, and hit it close, almost gimmy, and we called it on him, and he had to re-tee, without penalty, in which he made bogey. Should I print some local rules so this doesn't happen again, or should I bring extra clubs in my truck and stop and do a re club at the turn, as he did. Its a friendly skins game with a nassau thrown in. Not a whole lot of money changes hand but felt it wrong for the change of putters. Didn't mind the driver head change on the course, but felt the putter change at turn was a little over the top. What say u?

If you don't use the 14 club rule he can change any club he wants. Also wrong teeing ground is a 2 shot penalty.

If y'all don't play 14 club rule then I think it's ok to make the club change mid round

Doesn't matter where the club is. If I have 13 with the 14 club rule I can get a club out of my car.

Friendly game, get it. The not using the 14 club rule means don't bring 2 putters, 2 drivers and such. It means you can have 16 clubs, but no two of a kind club in your bag. And no he didn't have it in his bag origanlly, he stopped at the turn and got it.

Who created that rule? If y'all created rules then apply them.

if you are gonna have your own types of rules, they need to be well established

people taking liberties is gonna be expected when the whole group takes several liberties with the rules

eta: is this a money game? i would think it would have to be, or else I never really care about how my partners play

If you don't mind a driver adjustment, I don't think you can call him on the putter change.

But more so, it sounds like ya'll need to sit down and figure out some rules to follow.

Did the putter really help him that much? What type of putter is it? Sounds like the new one was making it rain on the back. I need to check it out.

is this just your understanding of the rule, or is the group fully aware of this?

i see people carrying 2 drivers and putters all the time, even in our money game.....I don't really care for the most part

Its a money game, and a pride game. The person involved and I are the better players, and we have a good time giving each other the news, so to speak. He was putted poorly on the front, and I stopped at the 19 hole for a sixer. We get to the 10th green and low and behold, new putter. I don't care if you have 50 clubs in your bag, just not two of the same.

Driver adjustment is worse than the putter change IMO.
Oh I'm slicing the ball off the tee today? No problem, I'll just adjust my club and I'm good to go

He didn't putt any better with it I just thought the change was a little over the top. I mean we don't play strictly by the rules, but what you bring to the table is what you eat with.

He usually does. He has a driving range in his back yard and practices everyday. I only play once a week.

I think you need to get over it. If you want to play by specific rules, state them, agree to them, and enforce them.

I don't see what difference a different putter makes anyhow. Like you said, it's not like it helped him

You need to have a meeting of the minds or forget the money game altogether.
