I asked my cab driver about it this weekend because I felt like stirring the pot. All his reasons for Uber not working were focused on potential harm to customers and no accountability. I didn't say that it could just as easily happen in a cab because I wanted to get home, haha

Because New Orleans will be the first city where Uber is attempted.

It's laughable sad.

Uber needs to get into Jefferson and St. Tammany and build up good reviews and word of mouth...

The anti-Uber schtick is so fricking sad. It's like if someone wanted to come in and open a restaurant, and the preexisting restaurants showed up at the City Council bitching and moaning about competition.

And as a bigger picture issue, what the frick is so special about the cab industry that necessitates such tight regulation and protectionism?

You think food trucks have not been met with political opposition? They have.

Anything new, disruptive, and threatening is dealt with in his manner, using the law and your connections to thwart their advancement.

What?

Free market system!

How in the world do you expect to NEVER have competition? It hurts the end-user, but the cabbies don't seem to give a shite about that...

Uber may just say to hell with this backwards city; the cost of doing business here given the headache is just not worth it.

Cabs have a lot of competition. Street car, buses, limos, other cabs, car pools, pedi cabs, bikes, your feet.
