I know that these questions get asked all the time but I do not believe that this particular set has been answered.

I am looking to buy a very specific used truck that is located in OKC. I am located in Baton Rouge. I do not like the sales guy that I have been dealing with but its the truck that I want and at a great price.

The problem is that they are offering me 4-5k less on my trade than what dealers in Baton Rouge are. I have no problem trading my truck in and losing money vs selling outright but a 4k loss on trade is huge.

I know that dealerships trade new trucks all the time. Do they do the same with a used vehicle? Its a Ford truck at a Ram dealer, so if I go to a local Ram dealer and tell them that I will pay asking price if they give me the trade value that I want, will they make the deal happen? I know that I would have to pay some to get it shipped but that's better than me driving there and back.

I would also consider selling outright but I cannot be without a vehicle with my work schedule right now.

In addition, I'm pretty sure you don't get the tax credit for the trade in since you aren't registering in OKC

Got to TexasDirect.Com and do their trade in estimator. They will buy your vehicle without you buying one from them. As long as you are completely honest with the condition, they will come in at the mid-point of what they offer upon final inspection.

If they ship it to a dealership here, I should get the credit anyways. Unless the dealer in LA acts on the behalf of the one in okc instead of actually owning it.

Going to Texas direct now

I'm def not familiar and one of the car guys may be able to help you here, but I don't think a dealer will ship a car across state lines.

Its not uncommon for a dealer to pull from a close dealer, but I don't think that happens across state lines.

That's why they're low balling you on the trade.

Have you tried taking your truck to carmax to see what they'll give you? I had a dealer in TX match that number.

The truck is listed on autotrader at the same price. They won't come off that price and I'm okay with that because it's far below retail and even trade value.

I understand that they gotta make money somewhere but 4-5k under fair trade value is not happening.

Well, either get better at negotiating, or find a different dealer. They advertise the lower price to get you in. They know they aren't going to give as much trade because of how aggressively they've priced their vehicle.

Basically, you want them to go under trade value of the car you're buying, but still give full trade for your vehicle. That's never going to happen without a "fight."

And that's fair enough. I already told him thanks for his time and that's it. I'll only contact him back if I am buying that truck outright. That's why I was trying to get the high trade value down here, and the low cost of up there.

I already emailed Texas direct and I will go by carmax later to see what they offer. Does anybody else have a suggestion?

Yes they will, but the lowball on it will be as bad or worse that the OKC dealership. If you are not buying anything, the dealership will offer wholesale minus whatever is wrong with it they can find. Not worth it, just sell it outright if possible.

2011 F150 Platinum 4x4 6.2 V8
Every option available, including max tow.
Paint in great shape, leather in great shape, serviced at Ford every 5k.
35,500 miles

It's looking more and more like I need to sell outright. Now I just gotta figure out the logistics of doing so.

The truck does have some aftermarket stuff on it. I know that a dealer doesn't care but it might help it sell private party faster.

F350 SRW 6.7 King Ranch 4x4
I found one with 34k miles and they are asking $43k. It has Nav, sunroof, bed liner, all the fun stuff.

That beats just about every other deal I can find online.

If everything is as you stated, look for 30,700.00-31,300.00.

If its used, this wont work. Unless owned by the same Dealer.

That's higher than what they offered, not not by too much. They acted like they were doing me a favor by offering $30k.

They may be. I quoted that for my area...but everywhere is different. If they have multiple trucks like yours in a certain radius; then it wont be worth as much to them.

How much is a 2012 FX2 F150 5.0 with 30k miles in your area? Has 20s, premium package, pretty much everything except nav and sunroof? Perfect condition except for some small rock chips on the highway.
