ESPN has suspended Stephen A. Smith from its TV and radio airwaves for a week following his controversial comments about Baltimore running back Ray Rice's wife, according to Sports Illustrated.

quote:

"As many of you know, there has been substantial news coverage in the past few days related to comments Stephen A. made last Friday in the wake of the NFL's decision to suspend Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice for two games following charges of assaulting his then fiancée, now wife, a few months ago.

"We've said publicly and in this space that those remarks did not reflect our company's point of view, or our values. They certainly don't reflect my personal beliefs."

[ESPN President] further explained the decision to suspend Smith until Aug. 6 came as the result of discussions with ESPN's women's employee resource group.

So he can say the N word on TV and not get suspended, but makes comments that could possibly be construed in a negative light and gets a week.

So much anger.

He just signed on with Sirius-XM's Mad Dog sports for his own radio show, btw.

The network says Smith will not appear on his show "First Take" or on ESPN Radio until next Wednesday. During a discussion about Ray Rice's suspension, Stephen A. said he would tell women to make sure they're not doing anything "to provoke wrong actions" ... in addition to telling men what NOT to do.

I do.

That's what makes all of this outrage and anger all the more hilarious.

His comments were ill-advised though. They had to suspend him.
