I'm from the Carolinas, have never been in the Midwest and I'm actually excited about this trip. I'm moving a friend there to work for a few months.

I plan on checking out a Detroit Tigers game, visiting the Motown Records Museum and The Henry Ford Museum. Just found out there are a lot of casinos. Not really my thing though.

Recommendations for restaurants, bars, museums, parks, etc?

Detroit looks bizarre on aerial maps. Outside of the main core alot of houses have been demolished. It looks like a cemetary layout. Close to 1 million people have left the city? I think it's going to be interesting.

Don't go.

If you do go. Pay some water bills.

Try not to get shot, mugged, or become unemployed.

If you are into hip things like blighted building and street art than Detroit is your city. Tigers games are really fun too. I would also recommend checking out some of the breweries around Ann Arbor.

Sounds like a good time. It's probably not as bad as everyone says.

I had a feeling this would go this route. Two bullet proof vest jokes in the first four posts....

I once thought this was possible. Everyone I have met who is either from or been to Detroit suggests otherwise.

Go to that pawnshop, call Les' daughter a fat bitch and try to punch her through the glass, and get on tv.

Slows BBQ is really good, but in a sketch area near old Tiger Stadium. There is some hipster slider joint called Green Dot Stables that everyone is talking about, but I think it's also in a weird, isolated location. Joe Muer Seafood in the Ren Cen is good for a high end dinner. Pegasus has the best food in Greektown, but I like the vibe at New Parthenon better. Niki's in Greektown has damn good pizza and greek salad.

Downtown, the Old Shillelagh, Town Pump, Hockeytown Cafe, and Cheli's Chili should be fun on gamedays, but will be packed. Away from downtown, the bar scene is probably best in Royal Oak.

There is always the "Windsor Ballet" across the river if you want the noodz.
