USA Today

This has been a Gannet News theme for 2 weeks now. The number of blacks in Tech businesses like Google is tiny. Therefore it has to be racial discrimination. Too many whites and Asians.

Now, Jesse Jackson has smelled the blood in the water and weighs in on it today.

Not sure I can't take listening to this stuff anymore. I just want to curl up in a ball and hide and/or die.

Good luck forcing tech companies to hire people who can write a lick of code.

because everyone is the same. the only reason why one random group doesn't represent the demographics of the entire group is b/c of institutions leading to discrimination, keeping those demos skewed. things like culture do not exist

Because they are too busy studying, working hard, and advancing.

pushing minority hires and affirmative action is nothing new in the tech sector, it's been going on for decades now.

As IT companies have had to become leaner and meaner, actual "ability" continues to be valued, any female that can write code that can spit out "hello world" will get a job in IT, but con artist like Jerkson and notsosharpton will have trouble leaning on techies, we can already see the push back against Obomba..

No more. Jackson has lobbied nearly two dozen tech companies to disclose hiring data, and about a dozen have done so. The result is sobering: Men make up 62% to 70% of the staffs of Twitter, Google, Facebook, Yahoo and LinkedIn, while whites and Asians comprise 88% to 91%, according to company data released in the past two months. Their dominance is highest in computer programming and other tech jobs that tend to pay the most.

No it's not! It just means those demographics are more likely to be qualified. Pick any reason you want as to why that is. I can guarantee you though that's it not because a conclave of industry execs are cackling and shaking hands under the table with promises to keep blacks out of their companies.

"Like our peers, we have a lot of work to do," Twitter's Janet Van Huysse wrote in a company blog post last week, acknowledging her company is "part of an industry that is marked by dramatic imbalances in diversity."

Nice job. Way to add fuel to the fire and actually entertain this BS.

Cool. If that's your company belief and strategy, than have at it.

False. Not with my company. Then again, we're a software company. Not an "IT Company".

What a fake....If he was a real black leader he would stress the importance of family values and fathers not abandoning their children. But no, the real problem with the black community is tech companies aren't hiring enough of blacks.

I think Rev. Jesse is confused by what a 'Smart' phone really is and/or means.

I've worked with (and still do) plenty of black people.

Are they prevalent in IT? No. But you can't force people to think the way you need to in IT. Just doesn't work that way.

WTfrick does that even mean? Merit doesn't refer to what you do anymore? The absolute last thing merit should refer to is what you look like.

This is so stupid.

What's funny is that this dialogue has been going on for a few years now, and apparently nothing has changed.

I'm sure all the tech companies are just sitting back and daring their peers to be the first to dive into the diversity pool at the expense of hiring less qualified employees.
