....is this weekend. For anyone in Gulf Shores/Orange Beach this weekend you may want to check out Fort Morgan this Saturday. They're are having a large reenactment of both the battle at the fort itself and the naval battle. It's a really cool event if you're a Civil War history buff.

P.S. It's also not a bad alternative to going through Mobile traffic too. You can take the $20 to $30 ferry ride to Dauphin Island and avoid a lot of traffic.

An interesting story from that area is the CSS Florida running the guns of the blockade to reach the harbour.

I haven't been to Fort Morgan itself in years. There is an annual Civil War reenactment in my hometown that I'very been to once and have to admit it's pretty cool. You can always tell when it's going on because you can hear the cannons going off from the other side of town. It's amazing how loud those things are even when they're shooting blanks.

Yes it is. I was there a little over a month ago and spent most of the afternoon on the beach but looked around the fort for a while. Pretty cool stuff

I have a childhood friend who swore he once saw a ghost while exploring the fort. Supposedly there is a ghost of a confederate soldier killed in this battle that haunts the fort.

Was just in Gulfport on a little mini vacation with my wife. We checked out on Ft. Monroe on Ship Island it was really cool. Also toured the Jefferson Davis home and Confederate Soldier museum.
