On a scale of 243-270 how reliable is the 25-06 for deer hunting? Wife got me one for christmas last year. I have several other guns to deer hunt with so its not an issue. But i was wondering how reliable it is and range of it. I have sighted it in at 100 but wanted to know what to expect out of it from thise that have used one? Also ammo/grain that would be best. Again, i dont have to use it for deer.. i have other guns, just wondering. Thanks

Where my dad hunts in Canada, all the locals use is 25-05. And they take loooong shots at really large deer. I have no clue what loads they use, but they pretty much all shoot 25-06. I would think that if they are stretching the barrel on the mules up there, it would be more than enough for anything you want to do down here.

I use ours randomly sometimes. It will destroy the frick out of what ever it hits. I am not big in to ballistics at all, so I have no clue on anything else.

I killed a 265 lbs Free Range Axis Buck in Texas with my buddy's 25-06 at 150 yards. It ran like 30 feet and crashed. Its a fast arse, flat shooting bullet, with a muzzle flash you can see for miles that will lay the wood. He shoots 120 or 130 grain coreloks. Very accurate as well.

25-06 for deer

For a strictly whitetail round, I consider it one of the best calibers.

I have only hunted with my 25.06 for the last 10+ years and have had great success with it. I shoot117 grain SST. Mine is sighted for 200 yards and have shot well beyond that and killed.

Great round for deer hunting. In the mountains here, though, we don't get a lot of long shots at deer like yall do in the flatlands. But it will put a deer down. It's also a great round for groundhogs. I hate those things.

My buddy swears by his and he has killed a ridiculous amount of deer.

I think the premise is a smaller and thus faster .25 caliber bullet in a 30-06 case with all the powder behind it. So it shoots longer, flatter, and faster...

I had one and was not at all impressed with the 117gr SSTs.

Sweet caliber that shot well and kicked soft. Very poor performance from the SST's though. Almost never exited.

I started hunting with one last year after shooting a friend of mines. They are fast and flat. Killed 3 deer and a hog with it. Mine is a low end marlin, paid $200 for it with a $149 redfield scope. Been shooting 100 grain core lockt out of it.

I really love the trigger on the marlin, I think its an xl or xl7 model. I bought it because I wanted something lightweight to pack around. Only negative is the magazine is non detachable.

man i got an xl7 in 7mm-08, all the reviews were awesome.. put a zeiss on it... and for the life of me i could not get groups at 100yds better than 2-3"! i changed mounts, changed ammo several times, shot out of a vice.. i said screw it and sold it! haha but the trigger was nice and all reviews were good. I just got a bad product

25/06 great caliber for whitetail. I would own one but I'm holding out for a .257 wheatherby mag.

Never owned one personally but a buddy did and lost several deer for no blood trail. We'd find them a few days later and not went very far from where he shot them
