I'd agree to that right now if every other department had an equal cut:

HHS
EPA
DOEnergy
DOEducation

Etc.

i'd imagine most of this is a Congressman problem and not a Pentagon problem

Army doesn't want tanks; Congress insists

If there's a home of the Abrams, it's politically important Ohio. The nation's only tank plant is in Lima. So it's no coincidence that the champions for more tanks are Rep. Jim Jordan and Sen. Rob Portman, two of Capitol's Hill most prominent deficit hawks, as well as Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown. They said their support is rooted in protecting national security, not in pork-barrel politics.

Okay. But why not eliminate the post office and cut the IRS jobs by 95% at the same time also?

I don't deny that we pay too much for things. But fine "fair price".

It's not like you can run down to Lowe's and grab a pylon support off the shelf.

And even for a "shim", it's not like one off the shelf. It's specially designed to meet military specs.

This is what I deal with on a daily basis. You're in my world now.

THIS x 100000000

Anyone who has ever owned or run a successful business would agree that "use it or lose it" acquisition budgeting is unbelievably stupid, irresponsible, and destructive.

Agree.

But ... I am not a fan of that policy as it applies to vacation.

Would be great to see at ALL levels of government. A lot of waste happens right before the end of the budget year with requests for needless items just to spend the money.

Hell, just looking at the examples given in the OP, if those numbers are indicative of what the gubmint pays across the board for most things, then it would go a long way toward balancing the budget if the gubmint would simply demand and pay fair market price for its equipment needs.

Since I own my own business, I'm on the vacation accumulation plan. I'm close to accumulating, forever
