Xbone pairing with Turtle Beach x31 (1st edition xb360) HELP!!!

Ok so I bought the adapter ,before you ask, and have updated my controller when prompted. I have the USB cable plugged in to the side port and the IR light is on the receiver. I have new batteries in the headset and it's plugged in all the way to adapter dongle. I see the mic light coming on when I talk but I have NO sound , either chat or game sound, coming through the ear pieces. I haven't a clue what I'm missing and don't want to plunk down another benji for a xbone headset.
Any suggestions. I'm ready to strangle a baby pony!

Tons. But nothing except turtle beach website returns.
Anyways....I FIXED IT. Re updated controller with USB connected this time and viola!
