I cut the cord and I don't miss ESPN. I would rather them show old games, paintball matches, etc. than show after show of arguments.

I stopped watching sports television and radio that wasn't the game for the most part

It's all just noise at the end of the day.

I am currently boycotting ESPN as well. Trying not to click on it or watch it these days. I know I am just a drop in the ocean, but I am sick of their TMZ shite.

I avoid their website because it's so fricking slow and I can get the news elsewhere.

I only watch for the games, but even with that they keep showing the same teams over and over. If I'm watch sportscenter I must be really bored.

I'm not. It is true that I am frustrated at not understanding how people find this appealing.

Moreover, I occasionally have a hankering for what ESPN used to be...highlights, concise analysis (save for the series/Stanley cup/finals/super bowl)

The only logical reason I can think of is "I like to tune in to see these two idiots yelling at each other" but then, why would ESPN need to limit itself to sports (in fairness, they try desperately to go beyond sports by keeping a loose tie in to sports on topics like gay marriage, race, etc.)

Why not make it a fricking free for all debate (not my kind of programming, but at least I could understand the appeal) on anything. President Obama, nickelback, starbucks, STDs, etc.

That would be a great reason actually. I will participate in things just to piss people off, or out of spite for them...however, millions of people don't hate me (only because they don't know me) and I need to understand why

why do people like this? Is it because they don't understand what the idiots on crossfire are talking about? They just like argument and sports is one of the few things they can wrap their brains around?

Help me to understand

I'm not boycotting them. If there is something on I want to watch, I'm going to. However, that means I might as well be boycotting them.

I do enjoy hearing what some of their employees have to say.

Colin Cowherd (I DVR his show...much of it I'll fast forward through depending on the guest/topic)
Schefter
Mortenson
Clayton
Fantasy football crew

To some up, I like their NFL coverage in general along with Cowherd. That's about it.

I miss Joe Morgan and John Miller on Sunday Night baseball.

John Kruk is not very good.

These threads are always funny, 90% of the folks come in and say they only watch for the games, meanwhile First Take and those shows are just crushing the ratings.

exactly, and this is a sports site...someone's lying.

I watch the real housewives (almost all of them) so believe me when I tell you, I am genuine. I have no shame. I want to understand why this is popular, and instead of answers I get "I only watch when" which a lot of times I think translates to "I watch quite a bit"

There's good programming on ESPN and there's gimmicky, tedious programming. It's not all great and it's certainly not all horrible like the hipster sports crowd would have you believe.

I definitely preferred ESPN when I was a kid, but I think it at least forces the sports industry to be better to compete with ESPN.

I do hate Deadspin because it exists to complain about ESPN. Deadspin should try to better itself and not bitch about the "Mothership".

huh? Deadspin is hipster and hates espn. Most sports fans aren't hipsters and a lot of them don't like espn...it's because they think it's stupid. Tune in for highlig...debate accompanied by highlights with no context.
