Forced celebrity apologies

Stephen A. Smith had to apologize this morning over his comments on the Rice incident. Why do the handlers of these people make them apologize for offensive comments? I get that they don't want to tarnish their reputations, but does anyone actually believe them when they apologize for their comments? Seems like a waste of air.

I don't disagree. But, that's my point. It's very apparent he is a POS. Why make him apologize? Who thinks that it's sincere?

I think this is one of those rare occasions where it was actually his choice to apologize.
He had been getting hammered all weekend and even apologized on Twitter so this one looks real, albeit more polished.
Now whether or not he actually meant it is another story.
