I saw that yesterday. I guess they realized that they didn't have room for the traffic circle after all. That could be a helpful improvement.

Yea, there's likely room but it looks like they'd have to shift the roads away from the lakes towards the technology center a good bit. Traffic light probably ended up being cheaper after all that.

Wish there was a roundabout there, though.

Just got an email about this so I'll post it below. Funny they had to bold the part that they're trying to improve...

quote:

In an effort to improve safety at the intersection of West Lakeshore Drive and East Parker Boulevard, the City of Baton Rouge Traffic Engineering Division, in conjunction with LSU, will install a temporary signal. Beginning Monday, August 4, the new signal will blink in ‘Caution’ mode for one week so the LSU community can become accustomed to the new traffic control device. During the first week beginning August 4, the light will be functioning as follows: if approaching the intersection on W. Lakeshore (from Stanford) or on South Stadium (from Highland) the lights will be flashing yellow. If approaching on East Parker (from Highland) and on West Lakeshore (from the Fraternity/Sorority area) the light will be flashing red. LSU Police would like to remind all drivers that as per Louisiana law, you should not stop for a flashing yellow signal, but should proceed through the intersection with caution. Also, you should treat the flashing red signal the same as a stop sign, coming to a complete stop and yielding to cross traffic before proceeding through the intersection. After one week, the signals will be turned on and should be treated as a typical signalized intersection. The temporary signals will remain while the intersection is being studied and a permanent solution can be designed and constructed. The new configuration will be monitored by the city and LSU and changes will be made as necessary. Thank you for your cooperation as LSU and the city work to make this campus safer for the traveling public.

I always hated when people stopped at that intersection thinking it was a four way stop.

I just find it amusing they took the light from one shitty intersection nearby and put it at another less shitty intersection. All they did was move the problem

Why can't it go live immediately?

It might be a new signal, but so is just putting it in flash mode that no one can seem to get the grasp of.

Surely a solid red or green is easier to navigate?

Over/Under on the number of rear end accidents in the first week as Baton Rouge drivers stop at the flashing yellow?

Isn't sorority rush about to happen? With all those women driving around that area it should be a total clusterfrick atleast for the one week the traffic signals are set up as blinking yellow/red.
