Simmons could probably be a lottery pick if he had decided to enter the 2015 NBA draft. You're either trolling hard with the Ingles thing or just misinformed.

There may be a legitimate reason why he is not on the team, but we don't know what it is right now. I'm sure some reporter will ask around about it.

What? You really need to leave the LSU Recruiting Board. You're clearly trolling now and I am going to report it. This isn't the SEC Rant.

There is nothing absurd about not selecting Simmons for a team in 2014. 2014 being the most important part of the sentence.

From another article:

quote:

NBL players Chris Goulding - who played for the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA Summer League - and Perth Wildcats guard Damien Martin are also tipped to make the squad.

They're listing summer league as a career accomplishment. It is absurd to act like Simmons isn't talented enough to play for that team.

New Mexico would not have easily beaten LSU last year?

Cameron Bairstow didn't average 20 and 7?

Cameron Bairstow didn't shoot very well from the field in college?

Which of these sentences are you disagreeing with?

I mean, all of these things are statements of fact.

ETA: LOL at the downvote. The only speculative thing I said was that Bairstow wouldn't start
Everything else is as controversial as saying Baton Rouge is the capitol of Louisiana.

I never troll. I'm not hear to wind people up.

But if I'm the coach of the Australian national team, I'm not leaving off the 2nd best player from the Olympics from my roster. Simmons could either be the 10th guy on the team or not. As an LSU fan, I'd rather he not waste his time as the 10th guy on an Australian team when he could play games here and then go to high school on time. If he was starting, that would be a different thing.

I don't know man, even if he wasn't playing in the games the experience he can get playing with older players in practice and being coached up is still something I think is important for a young player. From what I read during his time in Australia he soaked up information like a sponge to improve his game, so I thought being on a national team would be beneficial for him rather than playing pickup games at his high school.

I'm sure he'll use his time wisely here either way. Kid has been improving year-round so hopefully this missed opportunity makes him hungrier. Make something out of nothing.

You might be right. I think his mindset/attitude is damn near perfect, so I don't think he needs to learn how to work hard like so many other stars, but he might benefit from being around vets, even if it's only practice. Learn some crafty moves, sell calls, that sort of thing.

I don't think it will be huge for him either way. He'll be on the team in Rio.

Him not making the team is an absurd decision

It's absolutely an absurd decision. There is not an intelligent coach out there who would choose a mid-20s euroleague journey man 6'8 215 SF over your nation's BEST EVER 18 year old player who is a 6'9-6'10 225+ SF and will be starting in the NBA in 2 years.

Ingles wont provide one bit of matchup problem for the majority of guys he'll go against. Simmons is going to provide that matchup problem, and is your nation's future....yet you want to choose a 26 going on 27 year old journey man euro SF who's best hope recently of the NBA has been "keeping in contact" with one of the league's worst teams.

He'll be there in two years

Im with keys on this one

If anything it spurs him on to get even better.

Simmons is still in school, exum isnt..not rocket science

And mills just had shoulder surgery which is why he is off

Ben will be there for the olympics.

I get your point when it comes to the more seasoned guys, but what's your take on Exum over Simmons? Purely positional need?

Yeah, that's what it looks like to me. With Mills out, their only good guard is really Dellavadova. I wouldn't be surprised if one of their forwards plays shooting guard, too.

I've noticed many international teams are very unbalanced in positional strength.

I fully expect Simmons to come in and be a lottery pick after one year at LSU, and he will be a guy who earns it on production, not potential.

Exum has played competitively at the international level a lot more than Simmons, not to mention he just got to play in the summer league against comparable competition. Not sure why Simmons didn't play on the u19 last year, probably chose to play in the states, but if he did he's on the bench for this team IMO. Simmons only real experience internationally was 2 years ago in the u17.

Ingles was miserable in the euro league for Barcelona and he averaged 6 points and 3 boards a game last season against a bunch of nobodies in Israel as a 26 year old.

Everyone else is spot on, yes would we all have been glad to see Ben make it, absolutely. in reality does it really mean a whole lot no. The Australian national basketball team is not necessarily worried about potential or who will be on the roster for the Olympics. Guys that are playing professional basketball right now and/or part of the NBA in same way, should and will get selected before a high school senior.
