Over the wkend I've seen two movies (broken arrow & matrix) and both talk about using EMP, but one character is like "emp?" So then they really have to spell it out. Is this not common knowledge amongst most people?

Dude, do you look around when you go to Walmart?

Most people in this country probably can't spell EMP.

They could probably get away without explaining it and just letting people see what it is instead. I think that might be the better, less obtrusive way to do it.

Or reads books.

Or watches any movie involving computers or electronics over the past 20 years.

Or uses the internet.

Or goes to school.

If you've ever sat in a science class in high school, you should know what an electromagnetic pulse is.

What class were electromagnetic pulses covered in? I must have missed that one.

You seriously didn't learn what an EMP was in high school?

No. What class would it have been covered in? The classes I remember taking were chemistry, physics and biology. I don't see electromagnetic pulses fitting in there.

Best part is how they constantly show/explain it...and they are always wrong in their portrayal

We covered it in general science (9th grade generic) and physics.

I don't remember that. Couldn't tell you the first thing about it.
