Hot Tamale Heaven, Greenville Ms

Definitely worth a stop if you find yourself in the area. The tamales are moist, Delta style. Served with a little of the simmering broth, and well seasoned, they are possibly the best in town. They also do a fried tamale...the unwrapped tamale is dredged in flour and deep fried...tastes similar to a tamale flavored burrito. Spring for a serving when you stop in.

Those look de-vine. I love them in simmering broth.

taste like shines, or very similar?

Close. Just a hair below the quality of seasoning, to me. Very good, though. They also have a very small trailer on the main drag in Lake Village.

I'll send a bigger ice chest with the boss next time she goes. Plus got word of a new shop just opened up...gonna have to test them, too.

Doe's are mid level at best...and wrapped in fricking paper. They need their asses kicked for that.

I'd take a can of hormels over does. taste about the same and way cheaper.

Not a huge tamale fan regardless where they come from, steak and tamales at does in Greenville always hits spot for me.

You haven't had the good ones yet. Airport Grocery (a bar and restaurant ) in Cleveland, Ms. Trust me.

Get some of the tamales. Very, very good. And much larger than most, though still moist and made right. I screwed up and ordered a dozen the first time I hit it, and damn near foundered myself...but I did finish them ...and was miserable.

Maria's is no more, sadly. Not sure if the family sold the business after Shine's death, but I don't think so.
