I'm glad to see the Army's sexual assault training working along with our soldier diplomats improving our relations with NATO members during the current crisis in Eastern Europe.

What they are accused of is reprehensible. Disgusting. If tried and convicted they should serve the maximum punishment allowable at the U.S. Disciplinary Barracks.

The U.S. military represents a cross-section of the nation as a whole. And we have the UCMJ because we do have people who will break the law. So please save your false indignation. The system will work.

I'd hoped that this was some misunderstanding between a "professional" woman and her clients. But whatever the circumstances, if they beat and sexually assaulted a woman, I hope they get driven into the ground--and six months pregnant? WTF?

And don't tar the whole military with the brush of a couple of probable PoS soldiers.

Nailed it. The whole point of the thread. Forget the other couple million who serve honorably and faithfully across our military. No, we are represented by two thugs from the 173rd Airborne Brigade.

I wish the military would impose the same penalties today while we are at peace in Europe as it applied while we were at war during WWII. The trial of these soldiers should be held as expeditiously as possible in Italy, and if convicted the punishment should be imposed in Italy with Italians able to witness the punishment being imposed.

My biggest concern from this article is that one of the soldiers involved had previously been accused in the rape of a 17 year old eight months before.

quote:

Gray Gerelle Lamarcus, 22

quote:

The soldier was already under investigation for another rape, this time of a 17-year-old student which happened eight months ago.

This reflects very poorly on the chain of command and Army Criminal Investigation Division. A felony offense investigation that was not resolved in eight months? Unacceptable.

The military or more specifically the Army in this case does not represent a cross section of the nation as a whole; war, economics, a mercenary recruitment system, insane personnel policies, and careerism by senior leaders has created a rather unique organization that at times represents the best of the country, but increasingly the worst.

Hopefully a system of justice will work in the end, or maybe the system where leaders will try to hide their warts and cover up their perceived or actual failures will dominate. Or maybe the system where incompetence and laziness will dominate.

I have a buddy who was a wolfhound stationed in Hawaii but I think it was before then Did you ever run past a biggish white guy from Illinois with the last name Jones?

By white I mean blonde haired, blue eye, very white skin white.

Can't say that I did MIT. We have one other Wolfhound on the board (that I know). He is northshorebamaman.

"U.S. soldiers accused of rape to face Italian justice"

"Vicenza, July 25 - Justice Minister Andrea Orlando said Friday that two American paratroopers who allegedly raped and battered a six-month pregnant Romanian woman will be tried in Italy and not the United States. We will not give up our jurisdiction," the minister tweeted."

Thanks for the link bro. Wonder how this might impact the current status of forces agreement between the U.S. and Italy.

I am still embarrassed that this was the second reported offense by at least one individual. No excuse.

If they're guilty I would like to see them given one last jump.

850 feet AGL, 130 knots from a high performance aircraft, no T-11.

Yup, not going to recover from that.
