Hamas is on the ropes now. I wonder if thats why we're pushing for a ceasefire.

Articles today imply that Hamas was already up shite creek because Egypt's current government is so against them while Iran's resources are being used to shore up Assad in Syria instead.

Without the ability to bring in more resources from somewhere, such as the Siani border with Egypt, Hamas is kind of fricked in the long run within Gaza.

Yes. Granting a ceasefire now would only allow Hamas the opportunity to recruit and re-arm.

It's in Israel's best interest to push forward and wipe them out.

Hamas will not stop until Israel is dead. Period.

They need to see the consequences of their actions. Israel needs to make them say Uncle.

Well, both sides have agreed to a 12-hour ceasefire, from 7:00AM - 7:00 PM Israeli time on Saturday.

7:01 PM should be interesting ...

Politicians knowing a lengthy week long let-up only helps Hamas, why push so hard for it? What is the motive for Kerry attempting to get in the way of finishing the job? Why do they want Hamas around is perhaps a better question.

Maybe Kerry just wants to see an end to the killing of hundreds of civilians.

As for the eradication of Hamas, you are naïve if you think that there won't be another militant group rise up after this.

The hatred will just grow and grow. To be totally secure in the West Bank and Gaza, Israel needs to finish their ethnic cleansing, and proclaim as their state borders, all of the territory currently inhabited by the Arabs in those areas. There is no reason for them to stop killing until they get every last one of the Palestinians either dead or out of "their" country, as the Torah proclaimed.

From what I have read Hamas was still lobbing rockets during the last ceasefire.

Cease-fires are such bull-crap. Those two need to fight until one of them is defeated.

Peace will be far longer-lasting that way. What have cease-fires gotten them: a year or two at the most?

Israel has stated that tunnel discovery and demolition will continue during the ceasefire. This means they will be shot at, meaning return fire by the IDF, meaning the cease fire is bogus. But we already knew that.

Are they really "on the ropes", I mean they don't seem to have taken that many casualties.

Anyone know a round about number of troops Hamas has, reserves, people that swear geehad for the cause?

You would think Israel being the greatest infiltrators the world has ever seen that they would have a pretty accurate number.

If Israel continues the blockade and suppression nothing is achieved. Palestinians will continue to revolt and the cycle will continue.
