Does a good blended fund set you up with all the diversification you need? Is this a good idea? Im 34 and was looking at a few of these. It has holdings in US and International equity and bonds.

search the board for posts on "target" funds. Those are blended funds like the one you linked and are generally much cheaper.

I suggest heading over to Bogleheads and spending a couple of days using the search function. Every question you've asked in the last week has been answered thoroughly there. It's a great resource for investing info. People own and discuss all kinds of funds in those forums, not just Vanguard.

A site with good information but don't be scared. Those guys are hyperconservative oversavers, and a lot of them micromanaging their assets to the cent. It can be daunting for someone new.

Isn't that the truth. I find myself laughing sometimes, which is hard to do when the subject is the % of international bonds in an asset allocation of 60/40. I was reading a thread last night where somebody pointed out a spread sheet function that would look up the NAV of a fund and calculate the up to the minute value of a holding. Guys were creaming themselves.

The best are the "Can I Retire" threads, which normally go: My spouse and I collectively have $8M in our portfolio, half taxable, half tax advantaged, plus we will receive $90k annually in SSI/pension income. We will spend $110k annually, what does the board think? Have to be trolls or just smarmy A-holes.
Otherwise, the place is high quality for the most part other than some extremely anal posters. It does have a ton of posters interested in early retiring, hence the hypersaving for the most part. If they saved like the average American they would be saving $2k a year or less which isn't helping anyone's retirement, much less early retirement.

Was really wondering if a fund similar to this one, not necessarily this exact fund, could be a one stop shop and be sufficient enough on its on for someone who may not have a ton to invest

FAMRX looks like a great balanced fund. I would be comfortable putting it all there for the time being if I were in your situation.

I think im going with this one for the time being. Ill also buy a few shares of the commission energy etf a month. I figure if i cant afford to invest more than 250 a month this may not be a bad strategy until my jobless scientist wife finds a job down here.
