Do you set a page file size with Win7 or do you let Windows manage it?

With 4GB RAM, min=2,048 and max=4096 I got an out of memory error today for the time in 3 years. At the time I had Outlook, Excel, iTunes and Chrome open.

Thanks in advance.

Click "Start". In search box, key "virtual memory".

Under control panel heading, click on "How to change the size of virtual memory".

Once you get to the virtual memory settings page, you may have to uncheck "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" and check "custom size". The bottom of the virtual memory settings page lists the recommended sizes.

Mine are currently 5758 minimum and 10,000 maximum.

I also have 4gb memory

Just let Windows do it.

I used to manage my pagefile in Windows, sometimes I do now too, but very rarely.

In general, if you're running out of memory, the last thing you really want is memory on a disk drive. You need more RAM. This isn't exclusive to windows either. When Linux starts hitting swap it's the same thing.

Pagefile/swap is a stopgap only.

Agree with this statement.

"With 4GB RAM, min=2,048 and max=4096 I got an out of memory error today for the time in 3 years. At the time I had Outlook, Excel, iTunes and Chrome open"

If that was all that was open you had something going on. Either you experienced a memory leak in an application or a background service was chewing up memory.

Either way I would chalk it up as a random problem or if it persists try to track down the culprit. Resource monitor is your friend in this case.
