So I have a '96 Hydrasports CC - 22ft. Boat is in excellent shape for 18 yrs old. Has/had a 175 OceanPro ('98). Motor seized up today. The way I see it my options are:
1. Rebuild Motor?
2. New Power Head?
3. Replace motor with new motor.
4. Replace motor with used motor.
5. Buy used boat.
6. Buy new boat. Although candidly this is not in the budget for a number of reasons.

P.S. Love my boat. Fishes great. Trailer in great shape. New electronics and new trolling motor last year.

What is the smartest, most economical way to get me back on the water? And what motor would you put on it?

Find a used ox66 Yamaha.
Check compression on all cylinders before buying.

Greasemonkey - Excellent thought! I've never shopped for a used motor? Where to look? Thanks!

I'm in Dallas. But I'll ship the right one. Plus I drive to BR/NO all the time.

There is a magazine called Boats, Bikes, and RVs that always has a ton of used motors in it

If you are planning on keeping the boat for no less then 6 years, buy a new motor. You can make a deal on your old one for the cost of rigging, maybe.

Used motors? I would never buy one from someone. Only a dealership there and only with a warranty of no less then a year. It would also have to have a complete computer read out, printed.

I was going to say get with Kenny Hebert at Boats Unlimited...they will take care of you but since you're in Dallas I would deal with someone close and get a new Yamaha...

That's a fine-a$$ boat. I'd repower in a minute. Sorry I can't help with exactly how, but that's a nice rig.

I'd try to find a motor that would slip right into the transom mount for super cheap, then start saving ducats for a full repower. Probably put a 4 stroke 200 on it in a year or so. Call around, there's a motor out there that will require nothing to get back out there.

Pull the drain plug on the lower unit and see if its full of oil or water. If the lower unit seizes up, it'll lock the power was up.

Check out north texas marine in Gainesville. Fairly close to you and they warranty used boats. May have used motors as well.
