I don't think UCLA is ahead of Kentucky, UNC, Duke, or Kansas right now.

All I know is that Calipari would not leave UK for UCLA.

Steve Alford would not hesitate in leaving UCLA for UK, Duke, Kansas, or UNC.

Kentucky's had 5 different coaches win national championships there. It is the best job in college basketball without a doubt.

Those places would pay him more $$$ than UCLA would but in terms of the ability to win and enhance your legacy UCLA is second to none.

Those Final 4 appearances at UCLA are working out great for Ben Howland.

Howland's problem was keeping his players at UCLA

The ability to win at UCLA is more than Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, North Carolina, or Indiana? How so?

What makes UCLA a better program than those listed? Those are all premier, national programs that can cherry pick recruits from any part of the country (or world for that matter). Those schools all pay more. Those schools have a much more passionate and reliable fan base than UCLA. I just can't justify UCLA being a better job than those.

LSU isn't top 25. I can think of plenty of smaller schools I would want to coach at rather than LSU.

re: In your honest opinion - top 25 jobs in college basketball?

Marquette and Villanova probably belong in the Top 25.

They are historically good programs with basketball at the absolute top dog. They are located in areas within close proximity to top-level basketball talent (Marquette is in Milwaukee and about 90 miles from Chicago; Villanova is in Philadelphia and just over 90 miles from the Newark/NYC area). They have a wealth of talent to go after not only in their own city, but surrounding metropolis' as well.

Because the two are private schools, they do not release financials. However, if you go to the Department of Education's Equity in Athletics website, you can get an impression just how important basketball is to these schools. Both programs generate more than half the total revenue of all sports at each school.

Just a couple years ago, when the old Big East was in play, Marquette ranked third behind Louisville and Syracuse in basketball revenue. This was ahead of the likes of Pittsburgh, Georgetown, and Connecticut.

And New Mexico and Memphis?

New Mexico has great facilities, a great arena, and a passionate, large fanbase that travels

New Mexico fans outdraw UNLV fans at the MWC tournament - in Las Vegas - every year. Even though UNM has won the MWC tourney 3 straight years their fans still pack the place every March.

Yeah, I'd have to agree that New Mexico is not a top 25 job.
