I will be teaching a Concealed Handgun Permit class on Saturday, August 2nd at my office on Siegen Lane.
I currently have two seats remaining. This is the last class I'll be teaching prior to the start of SEC football season//hunting seasons.
Details of topics that will be covered can be found on this page of my website: LINK . You can view other pages at the website that will probably be of interest, but this page lists the topics. You will also receive instructions on how to apply for the permit.
Cost is $85 for first-time applicants and $65 for those who are renewing their permits.
To sign up, or to ask questions, call 225-766-4422.

I told Thomas Magnum just the other day that I wanted to come over one Saturday soon and take your class. I can't make it next Saturday, unfortunately.

once again i took dawgs class and it is a top notch class. I always reply because it was informative and a great value. And he did allow me to shoot a 1911

I've heard the same thing. EJW took it last spring and raved about his class being extremely informative. He and I took one together in the Lafayette area six or so years ago and he told me how much better Dawg's class was than that one.

Get in on this class if you can, guys. Top notch instruction with much emphasis on the legalities of CC.

What time does it start?
7:30 a.m. (Much later than you'd get up for a fishing trip).

Do I pay then or pay pal you or what? Is there a separate fee to actually apply? Sorry new to the able thing but wanting to get a seat from the references I have heard.
How individualized is the training? I.e. class size overall and how long is the class?

Thanks for any details

Probably already full but if not and you are considering it - take Dawgs class. Others have affirmed the quality of instruction and content and I agree - it was an excellent class and did not seem to take all day. Don't wait, spots won't last long!

I plan to take this eventually, will definitely use Dawg based on all the positive reviews.
One possible issue.
Summary: Does a past DWI (2011) prevent me from getting a CHL? Used article 894. Louisiana btw
Details:
In 2011 I got a DWI. Filed article 894 so it more or less didn't go on my record for employment/background check purposes. Police background checks pull it up but other types don't.
I've had police & HR friends pull my records so I know police can see and arrest for DWI but it doesn't show any details or conviction. HR background didn't show anything.
Anyway, does a DWI prevent me from getting a CHL?

1. You pay me on the day of the class. Cash or check is fine -- we're not set up to take credit cards or debit cards.
2. If you choose to apply for a permit, you submit an application to La. State Police. A 5 year permit costs $125 (if you're 65 or older, they charge $62.50).
3. Fingerprinting is best done at State Police HQ. they charge $10 (I guess that's $1 per finger ).
4. Class size is usually limited to 10 -- occasionally will have 11 or 12 if a big client wants a seat.
5. You need to be able to load your weapon, operate it safely and hit a target (roughly twice the size of a microwave oven) at distances up to 15 feet. There is no individual coaching or training on "how to shoot." This is a "how to not get shot" class. There will be classroom discussion on grip, stance, trigger control -- but this is abbreviated. The presumption is that everyone already knows how to shoot their handgun.
6. Everyone will be required to shoot a service caliber weapon (unless they have a medical condition that precludes this).

I got my CCW after using article 894 for one. It had been over the 7 years or whatever it takes to come off your record but I dont see that being an issue alone. You will be instructed when filling out your packet to provide court records which you can get from the clerk of court office and they need to be certified for anything other than divorce court documents, they can be copies. Packet has all the instructions.

No, only a felony conviction would matter. I've got one on my record and a few arrests, and just got mine Monday. Had to provide minutes, no bill letter, etc when I submitted my app

As has been posted, you're probably OK.
But to be sure, just call the Concealed Handgun Permit Unit at LSP (225-925-GUNS) and ask. That way you'll have an "official" answer.
