Why is LA the Happiest State?

I'm not meaning to bring up an old topic here, but I am sure most of you have seen the articles and Facebook posts about how a few cities in LA rank as the happiest in the US. Does anyone have any insight into how this might have been deduced? I have been to multiple cities on the list, and it seems like the quality of life in some of them far outweigh anything that could be in LA. Thoughts or criticisms?

most of the citizens in s la use any excuse on earth to throw a party. there's water and great outdoor activities.

I'd like to know too. I've lived in 3 of the top 10. I was only happy in one. In fact, I'd describe the other two as the 5th and 7th layers of Hell. I think people are either to stupid to know better, or the previous answer of too drunk to care.
