I don't know what the numbers are in terms of people that have Netflix instant, but there's got to be people out there that don't have it.

Do you think some network comes along one day and wants to "buy" or "lease" (I don't know how all that works) a show like House of Cards from Netflix and air it? Is this something that could be profitable for Netflix?

hell no.

netflix is fighting AGAINST the old tv model..why would they want to do anything to help that dying dinosaur?

eta thats like asking google if they want to start providing an option to send your email as an actual letter via the post office.

Yeah I don't ever see that happening. That would pretty much defeat the purpose of netflix shows.

Yes, eventually.

They eventually come out for purchase as DVD sets. No reason for them not to make some money on broadcast or cable rights.

Same as HBO farming out The Sopranos to basic cable channels.

It is definitely happening. There's a reason the episodes aren't actually an hour long.

Wall Street Journal reported that Netflix was in the early stages of negotiations with Comcast and other cable TV operators to include the Netflix app in newer generation Internet-connected set-top cable boxes.

this is a way to get the netflix app into more places.

Or asking if Microsoft would ever make a huge investment to save a dying Apple with a dying business model...

....Oh wait...

Probably about the same time we see HBO shows aired on TV. I'm sure there's a price at which they'd sell the shows, because you can rent House of Cards DVDs at RedBox, but I'm guessing if House of Cards on TNT or FX ever did happen, it wouldn't happen until after the series was complete. Back to the HBO example, kind of like Sex and the City.

not gonna happen.

ya'll can doubt me all you want, but netflix stock is trading around $330, they're a household name & their entire business model revolves around their APP.

the only format you'll see this is like i posted above..if netflix makes their app available pre-installed on cable tv boxes.

i'm right on this.

Not unless their entire model starts to crumble.

What does Netflix have to lose by making their shows available for broadcast? And just for clarification, I mean after a show has completed it's run on Netflix.

Exactly.

The first test will be Arrested Development. Eventually it will go into syndication again. We'll see if the Netflix season is included.

Shows typically need five seasons or 100 episodes to get syndicated so we'll have to wait and see if any of their originals last that long. House of Cards and Orange is the New Black are both strong R shows so I don't see that happening with them. Maybe Disney will try to work out some kind of deal with the Marvel shows though.

Well FXX started airing AD but the Netflix season wasn't included. However, I tend to agree that after enough time has passed and their views drop off on a particular show, they may lease it out to broadcast.

As others said, why not do this?

I don't agree with any of the logic in this thread other than the content issues. The Netflix shows would have to be heavily censured on cable TV. Now trading shows with HBO would be great.
