Any of you meditate?
Posted by CrimsonFever on 7/23/14 at 1:06 pm00
I did for the first time last night and feel more relaxed today than I have in a while. It's easy to do, I just follow the instructions on a youtube video.
Any of you do it? Do you enjoy it, do you feel that it makes you more relaxed?

I do 30 minutes of Yoga once a week, does that count?

My wife does this 10 minute headspace/meditation thing every night. It's an app on her phone.
I listen, but I always fall asleep before it finishes.

Haha, yeah it made me really sleepy while I was doing it, even though I'm really relaxed today I still feel pretty sleepy lol.

I meditate every morning.
It keeps me level, calm, relaxed. Stress doesn't get to me like it used to since I started, nor do things like aggression or aggravation. It has taught me patience and understanding.
Having that time for inward reflection keeps you focused on what is important in your life. Stick with it. You will see that you enjoy it more and more.

What type do you do?
I hear a lot of people talk about transcendental meditation, I'm wondering if it's worth the 1,000 and the three days it takes to learn it. Is it that much better than regular meditation?
The one I tried was supposedly a transcendental meditation excersise.

I've really been considering this lately. I almost went to the Buddhist "temple" of old Hammond for pointers but it's a trailer, and I just can't trust a trailer monk

I do when I practice my yoga every week.

Prayer doesn't equal mediation, though i'd consider it a form of mediation for people who believe in a higher power.
I'm really trying to find more natural and effective stress relievers because it's getting out of hand for me. I can't stop the wheels turning in my head, it effects everything and knowing that stresses me out even more
Vicious cycle

I've been meditating twice a day for 30 minutes for about 5 years. It does wonders for your cognitive ability and stability.

This is a very good exercise as it is one that requires patience to develop the technique that allows you to "transcend," so to speak. Did the YouTube video focus on breathing? That's usually integral for relaxation.

It's a sort of mix between transcendental and "Vipassana," I'd say. Vipassana is all about first clearing your mind, then following any thought that pops in your head to see where it goes. That's how you usually determine what is really important in your life, but I also focus on breathing to keep my heart rate low. It's a good way to keep stress low. I dunno, I'm kind of weird.

Yeah, that was probably the main part of it. First 5 minutes were about breathing then it started suggesting things to imagine and focus on.

That sounds interesting, I'll look into it.
