Here's a screengrab from both my phone & PC. There is no way to associate your own image for an artist on the PC so i probably have 20 or more that are blank but for some reason when looking on my android..they all have some type of image.

Because Google "hides" the purchased music in a cloud system rather than an actual mp3 download to your device. It's an encrypted music file that won't allow you to edit the metadata. Try to find Google music downloads on your phone with any root browser. You can't. That's why I either use a free mp3 downloader or use Amazon music.

I'm pretty sure the issue is that on your phone it will show the first album cover for an artist if they don't have a picture of the artist.

On the PC if you click on the artist you will see the picture that is associated with the artist on your phone.

That being said, I don't know how or if you can add your own artist pic like you can for the albums.

i'm not sure i understand what you're saying. if it helps, i don't have the premium google music service and everything on my phone is from my private music collection. no purchased music.

i know google will substitute its own copy for songs i upload it already has.

essentially i'm using google music to get to my music collection from anywhere without having to actually copy any songs anywhere.

Oh. I thought you were talking about purchased music in the play store. You use Google music on your PC as your music file manager? I can't help ya there. I know programs like winamp and stuff won't transfer album art to the phone. I use a simple program called double twist that is a go between for iTunes and android to sync and move music/media back and forth.

It isn't my music manager as much as I'm using it to store 20,000 of my favorite tracks and it didn't care if they're flac or mp3.. It reencodes them to 320 and I have access to the library virtually anywhere anytime on any device.

I don't have to do a thing except run a little 2mb utility from Google on the PC that's my server and anything I download or drop in there shows up automatically.

Yep. It's just cloud storage. It seems that maybe some of the album art isn't embedded in the mp3. However, that is only usually an issue with transferring files to the phone, not on the PC. It is definitely something with Google and they way they are uploading your mp3s to their server/cloud. I don't buy any music from Google play store on my HTC because you don't get a true mp3 download, so if you don't use the play music app, chances are you can't play the music.

How are you transferring your music to the phone? Are you dragging music from the cloud to the 2mb transfer utility onto the phone? If so, I don't understand how the artwork is transferring to the phone but won't show in the cloud. Weird.

The Google music manager utility points to a directory or multiple directories on my PC.

All the music I want access to gets ripped or downloaded to that directory so it's in one place.

Music manager recognizes when songs are added to that directory and syncs them to the cloud.

For the most part my music collection is very well tagged and almost everything is flac which had always been a hassle for me to play it.

I can live with Google converting it to 320 since the convenience is worth it.

Occasionally the album artwork doesn't get uploaded so I have to manually fix that. I don't have an option to do that with artists.

Much like Plex, Google will try to match up the music with known albums but I seem to have a ton of stuff it can't figure out.
