“The Committee has obtained information that senior IRS leadership knew in February 2014 that e-mails on Ms. Lerner’s hard drive were unrecoverable,” Issa and Jordan write in today’s letter. “The IRS’s failure to disclose in a timely manner that it had destroyed evidence critical to congressional and criminal investigations is further reason that a special prosecutor is needed to thoroughly and independently investigate all facets of the IRS targeting.”

The letter continued:

“On July 17, 2014, the Committee conducted a transcribed interview of Thomas Kane, the IRS Deputy Associate Chief Counsel for Procedure and Administration. During the interview, Mr. Kane testified that senior leadership in the IRS became aware of problems with Lois Lerner’s e-mails in early February 2014. According to Mr. Kane, on February 2, 2014, Catherine Duval, Counselor to the Commissioner, noticed a discrepancy in the number of e-mails gathered from Ms. Lerner’s account. The IRS had gathered 16,000 e-mails from the period after April 2011 and ‘less than 100’ from the period before April 2011.

“After becoming aware of the discrepancy in the number of e-mails, Mr. Kane asked a subordinate, Paul Butler, to look into the cause of the discrepancy. Two days later, on February 4, 2014, senior IRS leadership learned that Ms. Lerner’s hard drive had crashed in 2011 from her former administrative assistant, Dawn Marx. Mr. Kane testified:

Lerner Hard Drive Was "Scratched" IRS ignored advice to use outside experts to recover data

Washington, DC – Despite early refusals to make available IT professionals who worked on Lois Lerner’s computer, Ways and Means Committee investigators have now learned from interviews that the hard drive of former IRS Exempt
quote:

Organizations Director Lois Lerner was “scratched,” but data was recoverable. In fact, in-house professionals at the IRS recommended the Agency seek outside assistance in recovering the data. That information conflicts with a July 18, 2014 court filing by the Agency, which stated the data on the hard drive was unrecoverable – including multiple years’ worth of missing emails.

I heard that a couple of Federal Judges get back in August; they'll take testimony UNDER OATH, and subject to perjury/obstruction charges if witnesses don't come clean.

And the Senate may flip in January.

I hope we see those mails; and that criminal law is applied accordingly. It would do more to promote honest governance than any politician ever would. Because if they can ignore the rule of law...anybody can. That is where we are headed now.

IRS: Maybe Lois Lerner Emails Aren’t So “Lost” After All, Oh, And We Lost a Few More Too

quote:

The transcript also revealed that, according to Kane, additional IRS officials related to the targeting of conservative groups suffered computer crashes that destroyed emails that investigators are seeking.

Among those who lost data are Justin Low, a technical advisor and tax law specialist for the agency’s tax exempt division, which oversees decisions to grant tax exempt status.

Other employees who lost data were David Fish, an advisor to Lerner who also develops guidance for tax exempt groups and served as acting director of Rulings and Agreements and Andy Megosh, a manager in the IRS exempt organizations division.

Also, data was lost by an IRS agent in Cincinnati, where the IRS targeting originated. Revenue agent Kimberly Kitchens also donated to President Obama's re-election campaign.

Koskinen had angered lawmakers when it was revealed he waited months to tell them the emails were lost.

“Commissioner Koskinen has repeatedly blamed the reporting delay on an effort to be sure what he said was correct, we now now that wasn’t the case,” Issa said.

The IRS’s new story on the Lerner emails comes just days after the DOJ announced it was beginning an investigation into the matter and just one week after a pair of federal judges demanded answers “under oath” from the IRS on what exactly happened with Lerner’s hard dive and how these emails went missing.

I saw it somewhere that one of the Judges is an expert in e-discovery...

So, I see your thread title, then I read your posted link, and I must conclude, sorry, that you have a very limited ability to comprehend what you read.

You would absolutely suck, sorry again, at those SAT questions which ask a test taker to choose the most appropriate title for a given essay.

Here's a clue: two days is a LONG time to recognize a hard disk crash.

So are Issa and Jordan saying that the IRS intentionally withheld this info and drew this out for as long as possible?

If so, did anyone under oath contradict this 2 day discovery? I really want someone to go to jail for this bullshite. The pure incompetence of the IRS is astounding.

Ok, I will bite the troll from your dumbass.

Do you honestly believe that this is all a case of unfortunate events that have led us to this point?

Are you that far removed from your dignity that you think it is OK for the IRS to target the tax paying citizens that pay their mere existence in order to insure the largest government possible?

Do you not care one bit of how this country was founded and think these events are OK by any standard?

How would you react to this main stream issue if this occurred during George W. Bush's administration?

My left and right nuts would both be bet that you would be outraged if these so called unfortunate chain of events occurred under a different administration. This whole issue is completely unacceptable, regardless of who lives at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. This is blatant lying under oath and obstruction of evidence in a federal case brought forth by Congress.
