Specifically, the list-toppers are Lafayette, Houma, Shreveport-Bossier City, Baton Rouge and Alexandria.

1. Religion - whatever the current discomforts, people have faith that it will be better in eternity.

5. People less inclined to pursue economic goals. Which isn't a good thing, but if you're holding yourself to a higher standard and fail, you're going to be more unhappy. If your standards aren't that high, you have a better chance of meeting them.

6. More space - that map showed that the urban areas typically are very unhappy

7. Warmer weather
