Posting to find out everyone's opinion on which way they would prefer the top 4 teams being determined.

Personally I always thought they would just continue to use the same BCS formula to determine the top 4, to me the BCS did a very good job of determining the top 4 teams.

I didn't like using the rankings to determine the top 2 but it would be fine for 4. Yes the team that finished 5th would feel like they go screwd but how often does the 5th placed team have a legit claim at being the best team in the country?

Instead we have this shady Commitiee that everyone is going to be suspicious of. I just think it's a bad decision

I like the old BCS system (top 2) better than this bullshite. Of course I thought the BCS did its job well

The polls can/should have major influence on the committee. Otherwise, we could have split title nightmares.

I'm not sure of exact ranking but in 2012 everyone thought #4 oregon would play #2 bama. Stanford beat oregon and was ranked 5th or 6th.

In 2011 it was the opposite. Stanford was #4 and oregon was 5th or 6th and they beat stanford. Both cases the lower ranked team was conference and division champs.

My point has nothing to do with conference or division titles. We are talking about whether a team has a a valid argument to have the opportunity to play to be the best team in the country and rarely does the 5th place team have that

The system isn't perfect of course but if we are gonna have a 4 team playoff the rankings are the best way to do it

I feel like the committee will want to include everyone, and will emphasize conference championships. It may be hard for a conference to get 2 teams in, even if they're both deserving.

I've seen the basketball selection committee make some WTF decisions before, but that was mostly deciding who got in to the top 50 or so. This group will be picking the Final Four. I'd prefer the BCS.

Outside of taking the champion from each league and placing them in a playoff, there is no perfect system.

The BCS worked most of the time, but I always disliked the idea of coaches having a say in the rankings. Way too much bias.

The committee deserves a chance, imo.

This committee is bullshite. If the SEC were to have 3 of the top 4 teams, there is ZERO chance all three would get in. i think there will be a huge bias against even 2 tams getting in from one conference.

Was it the coaches poll or the AP poll they took out of the formula the last few years?

One of my biggest concerns. If a conference deserves 2 or 3 teams to be in it then they should be in, if they deserve to get 0 then they should get 0. But the Commitiee will be facing great pressure against both of those scenarios especially if the conference who deserves more than one team is the SEC

I would rather have the BCS formula determine top 4

Exactly. If 2-loss teams ranked outside the top 6 or 7 in the polls get into the playoff (because they win their conference), this system will not work.

Conference titles are overrated and a VERY poor metric for playoff inclusion.

Agree. But I love the concept of this 4-team playoff because it makes New Year's Day relevant again.

Why? It would be infinitely better than the current or past systems. Unless you are an Alabama fan, that is.

Nothing will be retroactively changed.

Taking each conference champion is silly, because the conferences aren't even.

Because the No. 2 team in the polls ABSOLUTELY needs to be in the 4-team playoff every year.

Otherwise, you will have split titles.

They should have kept the bcs rankings to determine top 4. No question about it.

My opinion which people won't like is that the BCSNCG did it's job 1 vs 2 that's it.

But for a playoff it should be
5 power conference champions
Top independent
Top of rest of 5 FBS champion
A Wild Card
