Propose a bill that grants amnesty to all healthy, non-criminal illegals and create an streamlined all but open border policy for immigration....

and in the same bill exempt all immigrants from Obamacare penalties(and subsidies), and make them ineligible for 20 years for any form of government assistance except public schools. This would apply to 1st generation children of illegals granted amnesty and immigrants as well.

Rush Limbaugh has floated this idea several times

He said the GOP should pass amnesty, but they would not be eligible to vote for 25 years.

He knows the democrats would never go for it, and it proves that democrats only want them for votes.

It wouldn't stem the tide of illegals overflowing the border. They don't exactly have health care or government assistance where they are now. They face slavery, gangs, drugs and extortion at every turn. The U.S. (even without voting, health care, assistance, etc.) is still a far superior option.

So no, it's kind of a harebrained idea.

I think this is a terrible idea and with Rush floating (Rush could be a float) the idea I know I'm right. So we want to change the rules that have basically worked well for a long time; enforcement of said rules sucks and that's the problem. IF someone wants to come into this country, they should be prepared to stand in line AS LONG AS IT TAKES FOR US TO INVESTIGATE THEM TO MAKE SURE THEY ARE NOT A THREAT!!!!! How flippin' hard is this to understand??
I have no problem with a man that wants to come here, work and provide for their family...no problem at all. Hell maybe they could teach all the lazy arse Americans how it's done. Being an American is not a right for someone NOT BORN HERE!!!

it would be better to make the pathway for legal immigration easier.

And it wouldn't hold up in court. You can't be a citizen and not be afforded all the benefits that all Americans are afforded though the constitution. Equal protection.

Which is why we can not pass any amnesty bill

You know as soon as some amnesty bill or comprehensive immigration bill is passed, Chuck Schumer and La Raza will get infront of every single camera bleating about how unjust and unfair the legislation is because they still don't have voting rights, how they are treated as 2nd class citizens, taxation without representation, 3/5ths of a person, etc. then some judge will swoop in and rule that they do have voting rights.

this is what we need to do with the immigration crisis.

1) Secure the border we cannot allow immigrants to come into this country unchecked. It poses a danger to those entering the country and to our own citizens. Drug Cartels will come into this country in holes in our border, terrorist can come in through central america. We must secure the border
2) reform immigration so that it is easier for law abiding citizens in foreign countries to enter and if they want to work in this country. The problem with trying to get work visas is that it takes a lot of paper work and money, so the poor in central america either stay at home and continue to live in extreme poverty or come into this country illegally. I've actually heard that many illegals will turn themselves into the border patrol because they just want in the country.
3) treat those who are already in this country illegal with compassion and treat them like human beings. We may have to deport many of them but don't just round up illegals and thrown them on a bus and stick them back in their own country.

All this would be is another amnesty with enforcement to come later, where later never comes.

I agree with the idea of this in principal but I have NO faith in either side enforcing any portion of this, either through direct action or lack thereof, or because the courts contort themselves to throw out part of the law limiting access to benefits.

?

Amnesty would not make all of these people citizens.

I would tweak the OP's proposal a bit, but let them prove:
1. they have no harmful diseases
2. No significant criminal history (traffic violations are OK;
3. Not on any terrorist watch list
4. Personally I would throw in some very basic command of the English language, but I can see how that gets tricky.

If you can pass that criteria, you can be a legal worker in the US. You would be ineligible for welfare except basic medical care (for inoculations) and emergency care (because we are not barbarians. The above process is for everyone that wants to come work here. Illegals already here should have to pay a fine and/or do community service

If you want to vote, you can follow that long process that exists today.
