These are two of my favorite movies ever. However, I will say that I have to be in a certain mood to watch them since they are so long. What are your opinions regarding these films? Which is your favorite?

the thread title would be more appropriate if the comparison was between Legends of the Fall and A River Runs Through It

I've got Legends of the Fall on my Netflix list.
Also, how is "A River Runs Through it" it looks like a very similar movie to Legends.

Two great movies, both a little long, both a lot of feels. You definitely have to be in a mood to watch them and, particularly with Legends, you have to be prepared to not do much afterward except sit about lethargically wondering why you live in the shithole you live in and trifling arse nature of women.

I prefer it a great deal to legends of the fall. It's a lot less action. I actually don't think that they are incredibly similar. Only similarity is setting. They tell a much different story. It has more of that young adult trying to find your place in life sort of feel to it.

Legends is more rewatchable. I liked DWW but haven't seen it since it was in the theater. It made me sad. Legends makes me want to be a real man.

These two along with Broken Trail, Unforgiven, and Good, bad, and ugly are my favorites in the Western genre.
Out of the two Legends of the Fall gets the nod from me.

Both are fantastic. Two of my all time favorite movies. Both will bring you up and down of every emotion you have in one sitting.

Legends has NOTHING on Dances.
Dances by a landslide.
However, you need to see the extended edition. It makes more sense in a couple of scenes.

A river runs through it is an excellent movie. Prefer that over legends.

For some reason I also have never seen Legends of the Fall.
I thought Dances With Wolves was a very good movie.
I thought A River Runs Through it was also a very good movie.
