Hillary Clinton has earned at least $12 million in 16 months since leaving the State Department, a windfall at odds with her party’s call to shrink the gap between the rich and the poor. Clinton’s income since her resignation as secretary of state in February 2013 is derived mostly from her latest memoir, speeches and paid appearances at corporate retreats, according to an analysis of data compiled by Bloomberg. At least 12 organizations that previously booked President Bill Clinton -- who has been paid almost $106 million in speaking fees alone since he left the White House -- also hired his wife. Among them: Goldman Sachs Group Inc. and the National Association of Realtors. With a prospective 2016 presidential candidacy in her future, she keeps tight control over her events. In one university contract, Clinton retained the right to approve her introducer, program, moderator and the set, and she limited to 50 the number of pictures taken on a rope line. Her earnings represent a fraction of the Clinton family’s total income and yet were large enough to rank her not only in the top 1 percent of the nation’s earners but in the top one-hundredth of the 1 percent.

I don't know what's more sad...

Democratic political leaders who decry businesses and corporations as greedy, and then charge tens of thousands of dollars to smile and read a speech that some assistant probably wrote

or

People who shell out tens of thousands of dollars to have a political leader smile and read a speech that some assistant probably wrote

I hope she runs. She had better use some of them bucks to buy off E. Warren...or she'll sorely regret it. Or at the least promise Warren Sec. of HHS.

She's wily; covering all the bases. She'll watch the political tides and then decide. If Conservatives win the Senate and clip Obama's Regulatory wings, and the economy rockets...she'll cash in a hit the talk circuit. If Conservatives blow it...she'll see if Obama/Michelle goes Warren; and if they do...curtain for the Clinton team.

Yeah but I'll bet that she only earned 77 cents to every dollar Bill earned. And that's probably because of the GOP.

how is her income at odds with the dem's call to abolish the gap? ... long as she's paying taxes on that income (at whatever high level the dems want), then that accomplishes the goal ... they're not complaining about what an individual makes ... they just want to take from the wealthy and give to the poor, which they can do if she makes big bucks ... not the best way to argue against her policies/beliefs ...

i don't pay much attention to the dems, so i don't know all the ways they attack the rich, but they generally claim corporations are evil (lest it's a wall st corp) and the head guy shouldn't make bukoo bucks ... an individual raking in millions of dollars isn't their argument ... the need for higher taxes on that person are ...

That's exactly what they're complaining about. You're allowed to be filthy rich just as long as you're on the same side of the political fence. I would like to see the charitable donation ratio between HRC and the Kochs.

The dems whole platform has been about making the wealthy look evil and out of touch……That’s why she recently went out of her way to try and tell the dumb masses that she’s not really that well off. Luckily it seems to have bit her in the arse

The ones dumb enough to believe her protestations about being poor herself in the first place will either never hear about her actual income or won't care when they do.

their main argument against mitt was he didn't pay high enough taxes ... just seems to me the article is attacking from the wrong direction ... yeah, the clintons are career pols, so they're hypocritical, but this isn't the best point to make, imo ...

I believe the idea is that the poor should earn more - not that the rich should earn less. But hey go ahead attack attack attack.
